Positive Comments: Interesting chord progression.

Constructive Comments: This sounds like a really old and muddy recording and it would be better as an acoustic piece than with all the fake drum sounds. Also the vocal is out of pitch quite a bit. Definitely not Rock. Either Pop or Folk, and I’d try to re-record with a more modern sound if possible and use pitch correction on the vocal.

Positive Comments: Very good studio and recording skills. Vocals are energetic, operatic, and angelic. Lyrically refreshing leaning more toward New Age than pop. It sounds experimental and that’s a good thing to do.

Constructive Comments: The most overall thing I noticed is its choppiness, especially with echoed words and the uneven arrangement. More single vocal with smaller parts of harmony and bridging the notes rather than almost randomly chopping them up might pull it together. There really isn’t a hook, nothing unique I can remember in the melody. You’ve got the recording skills, more so than I can hope to have, and I think you could do well to strip down and smoothen the arrangement.

Positive Comments: The arrangement of this song is spot on. The way it moves forward is great, the breaks hit and the drums really push the track forward. I can hear a big ‘Dubba Johnny’ influence in here, very similar to his ‘Dubstep Tutorial’ but i would say that your song has more depth and movement to keep it interesting. This could be great in a variety of film and tv work where dubstep is still making its way.

Constructive Comments: The mix is good at parts, but overall it sounds very scooped in the mids. The bass sounds as if it may be hitting your mix buss compressor/limiter a bit too hard and killing the dynamics. This in turn sounds as if the highs are then exhaggerated to try make a balance, leaving the mids missing with a bit too much low, low mids, and highs left in its place. It does sound as if the tracks are all individually mixed well though, just that your final processing on your 2 buss may need a bit of work, that or just a bit of rebalancing to the individual tracks and eq could potentially lead to better results as well if the 2 buss is clean by chance. Anyways, I do actually like the tune a lot and it has more marketable potential than many things ive reviewed on here and my opinions are just that, opinions, so keep it up mate!

Positive Comments: It reminds me of 2012! The song fits the genre well, from the lo fi drum sound that is very typical of the genre, to the crunchy vocal synth waahs that realy pull it together. The mix is also very representative of the genre with the main ‘bass’ line coming through nice and strong creating some interesting syncopations!

Constructive Comments: This song is pretty much what it should be, I would say that occasionally the main line can be a bit grating around the 3-7khz mark, however this is also part of the genre and helps to push it to the front, and I cant find anything else out of place really. The composition and the sound and the vibes are all a bit Dubba Jonny like and it hits the spot for me! Keep on it mate!

Positive Comments: I like the message of the song, one I understand and agree with! The keyboard work is great, I really like the wurly around 2 mins in. The lyrical content is great and reminds me of a cross between Steve Miller and The Presidents of the United States of America. The mix is sealed with a nice bit of compression that glues it together.

Constructive Comments: To me the song although lyrically interesting, the music can be a bit generic at times. Especially the guitar comps, they sound very dry and almost like general midi. Though I can tell that you took all of these sounds and made a good mix with them, I think the core material, which to me sound a bit like out dated plugins, leave a bit to be desired. Tho I do think that if your source instrumentation were of a higher quality that your song could come to life! But this is just personal preference in the end and i dig the tune overall. good luck mate!

Positive Comments: The chorus has a good, smooth hook, and your vocal delivery has punch and is emotionally terrific. You’ve got some chops! You’ve put the right amount of instrumentation to keep the integrity and not lose the soulful quality. You know your stuff! The chorus is particularly memorable and that’s what pulls me into the song.

Constructive Comments: It sounds more soulful than pop so I’m not going to be as knowledgeable as someone you should really hear from. Though the chorus is hooky, the lead in has words that almost cliche and don’t pull me in. The melody is original yet much like any other melody in that it’s not really distinctive…until you get to that terrific chorus.

Positive Comments: Firstly I liked the instrumentation straight away from the intro. The song has a lovely retro feel. It’s very, very catchy with a strong chorus. Nice change for the bridge at 2.14. The vocalist sells the song extremely well. The lyrics don’t break any new ground but they work for a song like this. Good recording quality.

Constructive Comments: I’ve marked down the market poential because of the song’s retro feel, however as an example of an easy listening ballad it’a a real tour de force. The song is addictive I’ve listened to the song four times in doing this review. That is testament to the strength of the hook.

Positive Comments: Firstly great intro with the drums, the little guitar run and then the chord. The tune has great swagger. There are some very effective pauses in the song which add to the drama. The guitar playing is spectacular. I liked the way you brought in the keyboard at 1.43. The rhythm section is solid with excellent drumming. Well recorded with good sound quality.

Constructive Comments: I’ve marked down the market potential because this genre isn’t very contemporary, but that said it would work very well for the appropriate film/TV listing. It’s a really good piece of work.

Positive Comments: Its like Herbie Hancock and the Gorillaz did an instrumental piece with David Gilmour stepping in for a solo. The guitar breaks and solos are fantastic. The background melodies are also nice and adds a fair bit of movement to the piece. I really like the sonic qualities of some of the more staccato synth parts.

Constructive Comments: Although it is overall fairly decent, the mix is touch and go at parts. The stereo image is a bit confused with some of the parts coming and going, and around the 1:15 mark the synth sound too narrow for what i think it should be and there is a rhythmic type of saw synth that is quite constant that doesnt quite blend with the project, im not sure if this is because of the mix or because of composition tho, it just kind of distracts from the main parts and makes it feel a bit too busy. HOWEVER, this is all personal opinion and reviews are pointless withough critisism. Anyways, keep on it and good luck mate!

Positive Comments: It has a very ‘Monster Magnet’ and Nine Inch Nails feel to it. It brings energy and a very late 90s early 2000s industrial vibe to it. The driving lyrics keep it moving forward and interesting. It has a pissed off ‘listen to me now’ kind of feel and it gets across the emotions that you were trying to I think. This would be great live!

Constructive Comments: The mix at times sounds great, but there are other times where the vocals sound very thin and over processed. I really like what you are trying to do with it and most of the time it is fine, but sometimes that phasered effect you are using on the vox runs a bit too wild and distorts the sonic qualities in unpleasing ways, but again, this is only at certain parts, and seems to be exposed more when the bass line comes in which i think may slightly unbalance it. But I think with some minor tweaks this could be great and has a much more marketable feeling that a lot of things I have reviewed on here so keep it up mate and good luck!
