Positive Comments: I like the opening, very ethereal, then once the guitar comes in, it really gives the tune a real kick forward. Very nice guitar work, I love the way the guitar sounds, nice tone and just enough dirt. The rest of the instrumentation works well with what is going on. Like it very much.

Constructive Comments: I can’t of any changes I would make. Nice done!

Positive Comments: Excellent well-written song for sure, with solid instruments and vocal. Modern and just the right amount of energy. I hear Black Crowes and Cadillac Voodoo Choir with a vocal closer to a lighter version of Eric Martin (Mr. Big). I enjoyed it all the way through.

Constructive Comments: There’s really no commercial “hook” to grab which limits its viability in the open market, but still very well done.

Positive Comments: The hook jumps out from the start. The instruments were solid and well-performed.

Constructive Comments: The bridge/chorus chord progression made no sense to me. I liked the first part of the song but it lost me when the intensity level rose and the chords didn’t match the concept (one man’s opinion). The biggest issue is the vocal needs desperately to be re-recorded. There were some pitchy places but MUCH more importantly it was recorded too hot and kept distorting, particularly on the chorus, but then any other place after that where the vocal pushed. I think the concept is there, but sorry – execution lacked big-time for me on this.

Positive Comments: Very natural sound, and it has a crossover sound – the first 15 seconds sounded like Tom Petty but then it definitely went Country. I really enjoyed the REAL instruments, blend and mix although I would have liked them slightly hotter in the mix. Good song though.

Constructive Comments: Maybe peel back the lead vocal in the mix so it’s not quite as far in front of the other instruments, and I’d mix it with less reverb/echo/effects on the lead vocal. Otherwise, rock solid.

Positive Comments: The vibe is nice and the piano is well-recorded and very effective. The bass is solid as well.

Constructive Comments: For my taste the electronic keyboard sounds cheap and lacking depth or a modern sound. The bigger issue is the vocal – not a natural rasp sound, just grainy like it’s a really old recording. The way the track ends with a fade out at an odd location also didn’t sound natural, as if the original version of the song continued, but maybe the tape had a glitch so you just did an early fade? You’d get better reception in another category too, such as Pop or Folk. It’s not Rock.

Positive Comments: Great piano sound. The guitars also sound very smooth and there’s a nice atmosphere to the song.

Constructive Comments: The other instruments sound SO good it’s a shame the drums sound artificial and often out-of-tempo. I’d have reviewed this much higher with that and if you put this in Jazz it’ll get a better reaction than in any form of Rock. Rock it’s not.

Song: Homesick – Instrumental Version

Reviewer: Bob Birthisel

Positive Comments: Great atmosphere, and beautiful backing instruments. I could hear this as a TV/film sound backing and it really works. I kind of wanted it to stay up-tempo once it switched, but that’s just personal flavor as it kept the vibe and groove intact. Nice.

Constructive Comments: The only thing I’d really change is a dramatically-cleaner sound on the guitar as opposed to the fuzz which doesn’t work as well for me opposite the totally clean background. I also consider this more New Age or Pop instead of Rock, and re-categorizing might upgrade your chance of reaching a music supervisor with it.

Positive Comments: Really an excellent song, reminding me of Randy Newman. Definitely more Pop than Rock. Great piano sound and overall the recording tones are exceptional.

Constructive Comments: One man’s opinion, the vocal doesn’t do this any favor at all. I would strongly urge you to consider using a guest vocalist to re-record this with more depth and on-point pitch. This song really has a ton of potential that is being held back by tentative vocals.
