Positive Comments: This works. In your face, memorable, rough as hell, good for movie scenes. Look for those that ask for tension, angst, anger. The opening is deceptive. Sounds like it is going to be a keyboard ditty I like that. I predict it will get picked up for some project that really surprises you. Don’t always think literally when you pitch it. Like a love story could have an angry scene where this works.

Constructive Comments: Nothing to change. It is what it is. I would just add don’t start redoing it because of any critics. This is the kind of song you get or you don’t So if they don’t they never will.

Song: another man (demo)

Reviewer: Pat Flanakin

Positive Comments: Reminds me of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. I like the feel of the song and it is rather unique. I really like the hook. The production is very clear. The vocal is very clear and understandable which is great in an age where you can’t understand the lyrics in most songs right now. I like the production which emphasizes the pain that this guy is going through. I like the lyrics and don’t believe they need any improvement. Overall, I think it is a very well thought out song which need little or no improvement.

Constructive Comments: My only comment would be to start out the production a little softer and then raise it to the level that it is now in the second measure or so.

Positive Comments: What’s not to like? You’ve got this stuff down. Probably make a lot of placements with this. As a secondary market, look at all those pitches for soundtracks and underscore material. Good for a movie as well as meditative uses. Also keep in mind those dark, smoky, even sad scenes for when a client asks for something moody Some of what they are calling jazz even fits your song. I would pitch this often and not worry too much about the categories.

Constructive Comments: Nothing to change. Interesting without going outside the dynamics of the genre. Instrumentation changes just enough to keep up interest.

Song: Born With A Broken Heart

Reviewer: Pat Flanakin

Positive Comments: I like the title and the hook. I think this can be improved with a lyric that is more descriptive of why the singer was born with a broken heart – it does touch on it, but it would be more interesting if it described some failed relationships and what the effect was on the singer – even somewhat funny circumstances that would draw the listener to want to hear it again. After hearing the song again, I see that that was done to a point, but I think there could be even more of that. The vocal was good, but I felt that the harmony was louder than the singer.

Constructive Comments: The lyric could be more descriptive. The harmony could be adjusted so that the lead vocal is more outfront. The production could be clearer, but that would be up to the opportunity provider as to whether it is broadcast quality.

Positive Comments: Great stuff. You should place this song easily. I hear it over the ending credits of a poignant movie. Pitch the heck out of this. Also, I suggest you take your name off as the author and put mine on it instead. But you probably won’t. Love the world-weary angst and yet it is really a positive love song. Seriously think this is cool. Kind of a drunken plea for one last bit of hope.

Constructive Comments: Don’t change a thing! It is ragged where it needs to be and comes together where ought to. Ignore all criticism on this song and just keep pitching it It’s one of those that will find its home.

Positive Comments: Wow! I would have loved for this to go a little longer. Really great sounds/instrumentation. Love the Native American influence, and THEN…. the East Indian sitar instrumentation, thrown in. How interesting. It’s a powerful arrangement, and great production. I look forward to listening to more of yourmusic. You’re the 1st composer, in a long time, that I have given excellent, across the board.

Constructive Comments: Like I said, in the above comments….. I would have liked for this to go longer, as I found it very interesting. THAT is my only critique, as I think you did great with this, and could easily see this used for a movie soundtrack. I listened to this 3 times to take it in, and…. I just want to say…. Good job!
