Song: Keep drivin’ me home

Reviewer: Pat Flanakin

Positive Comments: This very well could be a hit. Great production great recording great arrangement great vocal great lyrics. Overall the song has all the elements to be a current hit. I like the “pictures” it gives of what home is and why the singer would like to go back to it and what’s wrong with where he is. That seems to be what “they” are looking for in a song today. The song very well states the feeling that a lot of people can relate to who have moved to a big city.

Constructive Comments: I really don’t think the song needs any constructive comments. It is a very well recorded and overall very good song. The only thing that could make the song not accepted is that the idea of going back home has been done before, but it may not matter for this song.

Song: Assassin: (killer at heart)

Positive Comments: Like the whole feel of the song. The flute as lead instrument instead of the usual guitar or blues harp is innovative, and the arrangement using it as a lead-in solo without other instrumentation is effective. Vocal is right there in terms of tone and phrasing, and is a powerful contributor to the songs success. Lyrics get the message across and capture the anger and emotional pain of the singer. The flute and the vocals, as well as the tempo of the beat, are reminiscent of the electric-blues pioneering Blues Project of the 1960s. Good stuff.

Constructive Comments: The song is fine as is. If I was going to make a suggestion, the addition of a biting lead solo by an over-driven electric guitar, playing off the flute solo in the instrumental break, might add a little more bite to a song that already has plenty of it.

Positive Comments: Kids will love this. They will want to move to it. Pitch it for those requests that include silly songs, as well as activity songs. The honky tonk piano works. Hope you have a whole bunch of songs in this area, and if that is your singing, the voice is perfect for this. Keep a lot of action words, but you already know that. Kids are going to have fun with this one. Pitch it a lot. Also, create an instrumental version just in case they ask for it. You have a winner here. Keep up the good work.

Constructive Comments: Don’t change a thing. People that don’t know the genre may come down on you, but ignore them. You got this.

Positive Comments: Good chorus and good hook. Good production and clarity of the recording. Good vocal. I really like the hook and I have not heard that lyric before which is a major plus. The instrumentation is good and the fiddle is a nice touch. I think the style is in line with what you might hear from artists like Jon Pardi or any artist who goes a little more toward the traditional country style.

Constructive Comments: This is very arbitrary and may not be needed, but I think the lyric could be a little more unpredictable, for instance, the line, “That’s all I can say” could be rewritten to be more unexpected.

Positive Comments: First off…. Really good musicianship, throughout. The song itself, is quite trippy, and… very good. Starts off very simply (but darkly wild), and then, little by little all these cool things start happening. Amazing bass runs, and Carlos Santana sounding guitar playing. Great recording quality. Really cool. Great build up. Excellent. I look forward, to listening to more of your songs!

Constructive Comments: If I like a song I’m reviewing, I will listen to it a couple of times. This song …. I listened to 4 times. Truly, there is nothing, that I would change about it. Love the simple beginning, and all the fun surprises, that showed up, little by little, throughout. It’s great hearing seasoned musicians. So… keep up all that great creativity!
