Positive Comments: Blip. Blip. Ooooo. Wow. Is it Autechre? Is it Aphex Twin? Is it 808 State? It starts off blipping and, hey! Where’s it’s going to take you? Stay in your seat, passenger, the interesting spare parts take a minute to weave into a tune in an entertaining array of sonic space, female voices, and the clever use of midi tones that bounce pleasingly. Suddenly, end of the ride, sudden stop! A good fit for any electronica album or any video that needs an interesting, eclectic background piece sure to enhance! But do you know what really stands out? This is not a collection of techno noise…that’s too easy this is well thought out composition that will rock you!

Constructive Comments: Very well done. You could have fun doing variations or extending this.

Positive Comments: Remember those peaceful, placid, enchanting songs like “Morning” by Al Jarreau, “Lazy Day” by Spanky and Our Gang? The lovely orchestration slowly lapping like waves and smooth vocals will make you drift into the magical fields of stories and books. This tune is perfect for an educational video or childrens program. It flows easily to allow pictures sweep across the screen, even if just the screen in your mind. The melody is pleasant and easy to follow, and after following the lyrics, don’t be surprised if you browse your collection of children’s books afterwards.

Constructive Comments: Very well done. If you’re up for some experiments, maybe the distant sound of children playing after one of the stanzas. Might sound like a cliche but it might add a break and some interest just like the trumpets. Would that work? I’ve no idea.

Positive Comments: Got a cool retro vibe to the instrumentation, and the singer has a good voice.

Constructive Comments: I can’t tell what the hook is…there’s not a lyric that repeats in a consistent part of the song to tie the whole thing together (e.g. at the end of each verse and the end of the chorus, or at the end of each pre-chorus). The lyrics are also so vague that I can’t connect to the song, emotionally. What, specifically, happened that made you not even friends? If you get more specific, then the people who have been in that same type of situation will really connect and not want to stop listening to your song!

Positive Comments: You’ve got a GREAT voice! And it’s almost gender-fluid, which is really cool and unique. The instrumentation on this song is great, too…very 90’s country.

Constructive Comments: The idea of the song is good…about siezing the day and not wasting time, but your hook gets kind of lost, the way the song is structured. I would re-work the lyrics in the chorus so that the very last part of a line is “Lost Time”, and DEFINITELY have “lost time” be the very last two words of your chorus, with that echo you’ve got in there, so it sticks in the listener’s mind. I would recommend always ending a chorus on your hook. It might even be cool to have a “Lost time” background vocal echo at the end of each of the four lines in the chorus… “it’s something you can’t ever get back (Lost Time! time time)” “it turns to dust and fades into the black (Lost Time! time time)”. Does that help?

Positive Comments: love the guitar riff in the intro, and the arrangement is good.

Constructive Comments: I would re-work the lyrics. Here are some ideas for how to do that….1. I would not start the song with your hook (“getting my heart back”)2. Rework the last line of verse one, so you end the verse on your hook (“getting my heart back”)…because the way it’s currently written, it sounds like “so i can give it up to you” is going to be the hook through the rest of the song. 3. Add more to the story in verse 1. You just keep saying the same thing in different ways, the way it’s currently written (she took it – i gave it to her = same thing) (I didn’t think i’d need it – seemed like the thing to do = same thing). Cover those topics once, and add some lines about where you were when she took it, or how you felt when it happened. That’s what will really get your listeners to connect to you…for example, David Nail’s song is about the same thing, but he describes the scene more….sitting at a red light and it just fell out of her mouth like it was nothing, and everyone who hears that thinks YES! I’ve felt that and been in that situation! Does that help?

Positive Comments: The melody is cool, and the instrumentation is performed very well.

Constructive Comments: I’d rework the lyrics to make the song more original. There are soooo many songs that say “I want you tonight”, and sooo many country songs about seeing a pretty girl in a bar and walking up to her, so I know it’s tough to capture those concepts in unique words, but you’ve got the rest of the pieces to make a great song, once you spice up the lyrics!
