Positive Comments: Reminiscent of younger days with an ocean vibe during the summer!

Constructive Comments: No disrespect intended, but I think it would benefit this recording to bring in a session vocalist, someone who is used for the publishers and producers.

Positive Comments: This is a cool modern folk/americana style song with decent lyrics and some really unique and interesting vocal style and phrasing.

Constructive Comments: I feel that the mix holds back the song a bit…makes it hard to buy into the moment. The voice feels distant with even the shaker overwhelming it at times. With a stronger mix, the unique vocal performance may shine a bit more, and the strengths of this song would have a bigger reach.

Song: BILLIE’S SONG

Reviewer: Randall Mark

Positive Comments: Extremely strong vocal performance, complimented by great musicianship and production. I am guessing this is a professional musician and highly credentialed. Great song all the way around-well done. I enjoyed the build up of the guitars and then how it eased into softer acoustic guitar, before building up again

Constructive Comments: Maybe just a little more elaboration if the lyrics to further enlighten the listener in the story or reason why Billy didn’t come come or hasn’t come home. Although the more general lyrics allow for the listener to imagine more of the story, and may make the song more marketable than having more specific lyrics. So maybe best to leave as is?

Positive Comments: Intro really grabbed my ears, could have gone on like that! The main lick is a nice little earworm. Lead guitar really sings too, adds some spice to the song. The arrangement has the most imagination of any other part of the track, for me. Really nice how it shifts the mood. Excellent musicianship behind that arrangement too.

Constructive Comments: OK one of my pet peeves in a song is if a phrase gets repeated a lot like “power of love” here, but the song is called something else. My pet peeve! I enjoyed a lot of this track, but in the end, I just feel like the actual song material benefitted from a really strong arrangement. In other words, the song itself didn’t seem that special to me. It’s all subjective, right?!

Positive Comments: I laughed and bopped my head, so I think the track met its goals! It’s an interesting lyric, because it seems to make fun of “trigger warnings,” which is a big target of like Fox news but the examples seem more like “don’t over react, Fox news viewers!” so maybe I heard to wrong, maybe I didn’t! Anyway, a fun couple of punk rock minutes.

Constructive Comments: It’s kind of a party song, but it does border on “gimmick.” It uses some standard “punk rock” arrangement and chords, so hard to judge the range of the musician/band. So I don’t think I’d ever need to hear this particular track again, but I bet the artist(s) has some more stuff that might hold up for extended listening.

Positive Comments: Ha strong lyric, and so great to have a sense of humor, because not enough people put that in lyrics. Harmonies support vocal in chorus, that’s a nice touch. The hook is decent, it helps to make it memorable when it gets repeated a fair amount! Some good guitar work in there too.

Constructive Comments: I’m thinking maybe the singer is trying to project a sarcastic tone in vocal to go with lyric, but it does get a bit nasal. My main quibble is that the music doesn’t develop. The verse and the chorus have the same chords, I believe, or at least very similar. I’m not saying the chorus should be completely different from the verse, but the track does need a little harmonic variety, for my ears.

Positive Comments: A very tender tune. Keyboard with maybe a little synth support? But mostly keyboard. I think this could be the soundtrack for a romantic scene or some sort of sentimental memory. At only two minutes, this establishes a mood and that’s what the best soundtrack music does, so good job!

Constructive Comments: To do more than support a scene as soundtrack music, the melody would need to be a bit more original, have a couple of interesting harmonic touches. So I’m saying that to my ears, the tune is nice but not so memorable. again, sometimes soundtrack music is supposed to “blend in” and not stick out. So it’s tricky, but as a selection for listening, I don’t think this would draw me back.

Positive Comments: Live recording, has that nice live feel. Solid band, together. Guitar based number, nice rhythm guitar establishes groove, lead comes in with some tasty licks. Voice is not blended enough in mix for me but what I hear is a good voice for this number. I can well imagine this band puts on a good show for its audience.

Constructive Comments: Honestly I couldn’t hear ALL the lyric, but a mood comes across so that’s good. I guess my main “constructive comment” is that the song has no chorus, it’s more a groove-based verse. For me, that makes 5 minutes a bit long for a song where not much happens. But it does give the guitarists room to shine, and they do!
