Song: The Czar Is Dead

Positive Comments: Written in a minor key, here is an instrumental duet with an electronic mandolin sound backed by a consistent keyboard bass part. The melody is memorable. It reminds me of klezmer music.

Constructive Comments: Beef it up with some more samples, different instrumentation. Build it a little? I wasn’t real fond of the tinny electronic sounding mandolin. Nothing wrong with the bass runs but their pedantic consistency was almost…too much. Does that make sense? Ending needs to be a bit more conclusive.

Song: Maybe Someday Soon by Peter Schwepker & Larry Brenner

Positive Comments: This is a very sweet song about a grown woman singing to her (just passed away) dad. It seems to be a song that would be appropriate for a funeral or a movie about your dad dying. Pleasant intro. Nice string bed. The vocalist executes the song beautifully with much emotion and tenderness. Nicely done. Lovely mix. Effective instrumentation, good production.

Constructive Comments: first line, vocals should be improved, stronger, more confident like the rest of the song. Is this an original or a cover?

Positive Comments: Great drums on the intro. Very tribal sounding. Gritty vocals. This is a highly original song about the triggers in modern society. It’s very real, very current, very true. You can’t help offending somebody no matter what you say…somebody’s not gonna like it. The songwriter hit on several instances that fit together well in this song…skillful lyric writing. The chorus is super catchy and effective. Sounds like you’re pulling the trigger every time you belt out the hook. This is great songwriting!

Constructive Comments: Seems to me that the vocals on the chorus were a bit off pitch. Perhaps that was intentional, but it hit my ear as a bit off.

Positive Comments: Only two great artists I know of that sound like this to me. One of them is not on Broadjam (Michael McDonald), so, if I’m correct, this must be the work of the great Earl C. Webb from the U.K.! Beautiful songwriting, performance, vocals and production by a master who should be world famous and have walls of platinum and gold, in my opinion!

Constructive Comments: I love listening to your music, Earl, if this is you. You’ve nailed it again!
