Song: First Glance

Reviewer: Nigel Barrett

Positive Comments: Reminds me of so many 80’s soul tracks – a real blend of so many grooves.

Constructive Comments: The overall mix is lacking any real treble in the vocal/mid range – almost muffled. The double tracking on the vocal needs to be tighter. The ‘First glance’ vocal line is way off – did I detect autotune for the harmony breakdown part in the middle? That sets the standard – maybe use that all the way through? All the pro’s do it that way as you no doubt know.

Positive Comments: As a bass player I’m always intimidated when I hear great bass musicianship! Tremendous playing throughout. I assume it’s a real bass but these days software and prgrammers are so so clever.

Constructive Comments: Nothing to really add – it hots the spot it’s supposed to hit.

Positive Comments: Sounds a lot like a Broadway number! Maybe it’s a cover of a tune I am unfamiliar with.

Constructive Comments: I’m guessing the piano is a synth patch – would be great if it could be re-recorded with a real piano. Some strings could also add a new dimension.

Positive Comments: Great vocal performance! I liked the way the tune builds.

Constructive Comments: For my money I’d bring in the rhythm a little earlier although it still works as it is. I also would love to hear some vocal harmonies particularly as this is in the jazz category.

Song: The World as we Know It

Reviewer: Bob Birthisel

Positive Comments: Brilliant guitar work, and overall a nice piece of music with an interesting arrangement. I really enjoyed the melodic flair and tone of the lead guitar. Almost blues more than rock.

Constructive Comments: Can’t get past the mix. The vocals are way too far in the back making the lyrics difficult to understand. While the guitar is EXCEPTIONAL it’s also too far-forward as it doesn’t sound like a band as much as a guitarist soloing with a supporting cast. I still enjoyed the sound a lot but would recommend mixing it with more equality across the board, and tightening up the vocal tracks.

Song: When I Fall in Love

Reviewer: WG Music

Positive Comments: A classic! Nice instrumentation and arrangement. Particularly liked the sax. Vocals were strong, expressive, fit in totally with the style.

Constructive Comments: Maybe a little too traditional. The vocal is good, but some improvisation on such a well-known tune would be great. Maybe even a change of key at the 2/3 point. Can be hokey, but also can be effective to pull the listener in.

Positive Comments: Beautiful marriage of keyboards and horns at the intro and throughout. Puts me to mind somewhat of Elton John’s “Empty Garden” both in some of the structure and in the story line. All in all, a beautiful and touching song.

Constructive Comments: Great job.
