Song: SOME OTHER TIME

Reviewer: Jeff Maguire

Positive Comments: Very sentimental pop / jazz tune , definitely creates a contemplative mood. Maybe reminds me of Barry Manilow meets Tony Bennett.

Constructive Comments: The song itself might be sell-able if you find the right outlet but the voice is pretty pitchy and strained. Piano playing is nice, song has some nice changes, but to sell off I think you need either a different singer or to re do the vocal entirely. It depends on your intent, most of the the people who would buy this want a finished product.

Song: What Must I Do (Selsky/Dunkle)

Reviewer: Kate Carpenter

Positive Comments: This song, at least in part, reminds me of the bible story of the Philippian Jailor. It seems to refer to the disciples who were set free by the angel (before you disappear). Clever angle on the story put into a song. Excellent rock band instrumentation.

Constructive Comments: Vocal is kind of lackluster. Needs a little more clarity and purpose. Second verse doesn’t seem to be congruent with first verse at all. I think this song still needs some work. Your strong point is the instrumentation! I really like the rock band sound you’ve put together…or maybe it’s a real rock band. Nowadays with these fancy music computer programs…you never know!

Constructive Comments: I like the new feature of being able to see the lyrics, but the box is not totally visible. I’ll have to tell BJ about that. You’ve got a great voice and some really amazing creativity. The song seems to lack a real chorus, but I think you wanted the refrain to serve as the unifying factor.

Song: Dr days’ elixir

Reviewer: Kate Carpenter

Positive Comments: We’ve all seen the western shows with some “doctor” salesman promoting his miracle elixir to the crowd and the buyers lining up. This song takes it a little further and turns it into a folksy ballad that makes the story into a song. Nicely sung, and the instrumentation is so fun to listen to.

Constructive Comments: It was hard to get into the story at first because it seemed like the lyrics/story were fired off too fast. Then I noticed the new feature BJ put up “view lyrics” …why didn’t they do this years ago? In one way, it’s a good idea. Another opinion is: hey if I can’t understand the lyrics as the song is recorded, then the song isn’t so well recorded. Anyway, the only thing I didn’t really like about your song was the immorality of the doctor. You are a good songwriter, though!
