Positive Comments: A beautiful ballad. I could hear it in many movie scenes. I love the space in this tune. A very convincing vocal delivery for these lyrics. Great bridge as there is a question as there is many great songs. Nice work!

Constructive Comments: Beginning note a little too shocking. Needs to be softened with attenuation and EQ. I’d like to hear the bass (fretless?) do a few more embellishments like 4:08. There is also grumble piano chord at 3:16. Too many left hand bass notes. I listened several times on my studio monitors. I’m picky for sure but most won’t care or hear the above. No worries and good luck.

THE RANT (v15) by Douglas Branson aka dB+1

Song: THE RANT (v15)

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: This sounds like Motley Crue (She’s Got Looks that Kill). And then you surprise by making it an angry working class white rant. This makes it so much more interesting. This ain’t for everyone but I can imagine this could help a lot of bars break out into mayhem if this were played on the PA, you might get damage bills instead of royalties though. This is way original and creative. I think it works too!!

Constructive Comments: I think I’d back the guitar down a little and compress it so it sits a bit smoother in the mix, and emphasize bass & drums a bit more. Make the bass a bit more funky and interesting so that it goes more Lenny Kravitz. Gotta end with meaning rather than just fading.

Positive Comments: Nice moody tune with slick syncopated groove. There is nice staging and development of the elements. The (flange guitar?) part that comes in at :29 is soooo cool. This is solid work and I really enjoyed listening to this!!

Constructive Comments: I think there’s mix stuff that could be done to make the overall sound more catchy but I can’t say exactly what–it would be experimenting. Maybe a master bus distortion layer, filters here and there, panning. Some of the key riffs have a tone that’s too tame and simple IMO but we’re talking about personal taste and a lot of tweaking looking for subtle differences. I think the bass part could do more and add a lot.

Positive Comments: The intro is attention grabbing and then the riffing is big and badass with a great sound and tight playing. The flat 5th adds a fresh twist to a riff that could be otherwise predictable. Big vocals grab and the lyrics/phrasing are very well crafted and work the groove well. The vocal performance is passionate and engineered well. This is a hard approach but the sound is clean and the playing is really tight and spare so it’s fresh and interesting–you can hear all the parts clearly and the emphasis is on the groove and tight playing (no guitar hero 80’s stuff crowding the mix). This is really original even though it’s very much in the blues rock school. Nice job!!!

Constructive Comments: I’d work on an end tag that’s more conclusive.

Positive Comments: Nice instrumental. I particularly like the smooth flow of this, and the way the drums are used, as well as the arrangement and the way the tune builds.

Constructive Comments: I could hear this in the background in a movie or on a TV show. Could be very useful. Either a very different ending or a mistake in production. The jury is out on that one.

Positive Comments: Really good singing here. The playing is top notch too. Great playing on what I believe is a 12 string acoustic guitar which is something you do not hear too often anymore. Very marketable track!

Constructive Comments: Sounds great. It has a funky fade-in like it was apart of another piece of music. I think for this acoustic version it could use a little more bottom-end which acoustic guitars have plenty of. This would sound awesome with a full out band too. A very kick-ass tune!
