Positive Comments: This reminds me of Animal Logic from the 80’s–a highly underrated band. Also Heart and Sara Brightman. Great vocal quality and performance. There are some really super cool moments where the changes underneath the vocal melody are a bit unexpected and so tasty, eg “this insanity is gonna kill me–living life”. The break at 2:05 is great and totally reinforces the angsty mood of the tune.
Constructive Comments: You spend too much time in the starting gate. I think you should just kick into the tune from about where it’s now at :25. The modulation at 2:22 sounds awkward and you’re straining too much vocally. The dropout at 2:44 doesn’t really fit the rest of the tune. I don’t think the snare tone and bright overly loud room mic on the drums fits. The tone on the lead guitar is really sour in places–too much rasp in the tone and maybe the tuning/pitch off a bit–that really needs a warmer, singing tone. The rhythm guitar tone is very 80’s and the overall mix tone has a boxy mid sound that’s 80’s as well. All IMO of course. I really like this tune–I think it needs to get a serious fine tuning to get it optimized. There’s so much that’s really cool here.
