Positive Comments: Neil Young and Iggy Pop finally collaborate with Thin Lizzy! This has a great punk energy.

Constructive Comments: The sound could use some pasteurizing… I’d take some dirty off the guitars. The lead is a bit too nasty IMO and loud. Bring the drums up with less room sound and a little bit smoother tone. Watch clipping all around. Why’d you quit? you were just getting started…

Positive Comments: Ronald comes in with a big and confident vocal that asserts as if he were Rod Stewart or Joe Cocker!! I’ve heard this before but a review makes me listen more closely. This is dark and I think it really works. It’s the sort of tune that makes one think about the situation of others. The progression and instrumentation fit the mood very well. This is powerful work!

Constructive Comments: the feedback on the delay lasts too long IMO –it should just be a slap without that much tail behind it and add some reverb to give it thickness without too much aftertaste

In My Life & Time by Tom Reock

Song: In My Life & Time

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: It was a pleasure to review this tune. Very strong and passionate vocal performance with compelling lyrics that are emphatic and topical without falling into cliche. That is a standout piano solo–really really great tone, phrasing, and the cascading finish is so cool. Props for putting congas in!Really class effort here!!

Constructive Comments: It would be good to get a nice mic recorded acoustic sound rather then the brittle pickup sound. I think you could add a lot to the tune by building more activity in the rhythm and percussion. If the bass was more of an assertive groove with some more aggressive but subtle drums, vs having it working more randomly off the beat it would add some “Stephen Stills” urgency. Some atmospheric string patches and other synth pads could add a mystique, or let’s say more, it’s already very cool.

Positive Comments: Overall, I believe this song is very well crafted. The musicianship is professional, the melody lines are thoughtful, the changes make sense. I can see this being used as “background music” for a number of purposes – commercials, TV scenes, on-hold music, office music, and more. I listened through twice and my only (and miniscule) criticism is the drum/percussion sounds. I would prefer more natural sounding drums, but that’s just me. Otherwise, this is strong instrumental piece invoking calm and tranquility.

Constructive Comments: As noted above, my only constructive comments are the drum/percussion sounds. They sound a bit like they were made electronically. I prefer real drums/percussion. I also gave a lower grade on the quality of the hook, but I don’t think this style of music necessarily needs a hook. I don’t listen to New Age music often, so I’m not sure if there should be a hook or not. If I was to write it, I would probably have one, but that’s because I write from a more “pop music” sensibility. While the song doesn’t grab me by the horns (thus the overall rating), I still think it’s well done and thoughtfully crafted.
