Broadjam Artist: Floyd Kelly
Song: Sepias Waltz
Reviewer: Seth Adam
Positive Comments: Overall, I believe this song is very well crafted. The musicianship is professional, the melody lines are thoughtful, the changes make sense. I can see this being used as “background music” for a number of purposes – commercials, TV scenes, on-hold music, office music, and more. I listened through twice and my only (and miniscule) criticism is the drum/percussion sounds. I would prefer more natural sounding drums, but that’s just me. Otherwise, this is strong instrumental piece invoking calm and tranquility.
Constructive Comments: As noted above, my only constructive comments are the drum/percussion sounds. They sound a bit like they were made electronically. I prefer real drums/percussion. I also gave a lower grade on the quality of the hook, but I don’t think this style of music necessarily needs a hook. I don’t listen to New Age music often, so I’m not sure if there should be a hook or not. If I was to write it, I would probably have one, but that’s because I write from a more “pop music” sensibility. While the song doesn’t grab me by the horns (thus the overall rating), I still think it’s well done and thoughtfully crafted.
