The Blue & Grey by Jimmy Joe Lee

Positive Comments: This is a really special folk song about going to war…I love the guitar intro. Sets up song for the great melody perfectly. This is an excellent song, and the first reason I know that is that it affected me emotionally. Whether it’s the civil war or the war against terrorism, we still have young men and women living out this same story, and experiencing that “deep despair” in a young life, a young love lost. The last verse was beautifully & poignantly written…perfect. I absolutely love the voice! It’s real, true, honest and obviously a master storyteller in song. The melody is simple, the hook memorable, and the bridge is right on target. Way to go! I definitely want to hear more of your work!

Constructive Comments: As soon as the horns/bugle came in, I was thinking…why? I’d love to hear a mix of this song with just the guitar and vocal. I can see why you went to the trouble to produce it the way you did, but you almost over-produced it. Perhaps it was written for a documentary and you felt like you needed to, but the song stands strong by itself. I’m not complaining or trying to be critical…just sharing my gut-level reaction. I’m a fan! Mrs. Kate

Positive Comments: With crystal-clear vocals and a cheerful excitement, the vocalist delivers a sparkling rendition of this holiday song. The effective introduction sets things up nicely, and the songwriter’s word pictures keep the Christmas images coming through on every verse. Favorite lyric: Milky Way Sky. Very professional production…Nice job!

Constructive Comments: First of all, in my opinion, this song should be classified as Unique-Holiday. I didn’t see anything religious about it at all. It’s more a secular Christmas carol. It seemed to me to be a combination of words/images/lyrics that I have heard in many other Christmas carols, so it didn’t seem uniquely original to me…but maybe that is what you were trying to do.

Positive Comments: This song reminds me of “Life at the Beach House.” Happy, upbeat, promotes a feeling of well-being and positivity. Nice percussion intro, smooth keys, nice samples chosen for this piece. Nice instrumental changeups. Good job.

Constructive Comments: New Age is NOT my genre, but it seems to me that this piece lacks a unified, recognizable theme to pull it together. I’d vary the percussion up a bit. Please take what I say with a grain of salt, as this is not my area of expertise.

Constructive Comments: This song has a Country Feel to it, I like it but it would be much better with drums and bass guitar – I would also add a piano towards the end of the song – best wishes!

Positive Comments: Its hard to tell without lyrics. It had a mix of genres and some nice gutiar licks in it.

Constructive Comments: I felt it had alot of diffrent sounds going on and it did not always sound smooth or mixed well. It seemed to be a fusion of styles, but seemed to go against each other at time. I like the guitar licks.

Positive Comments: I like the introduction and how the piano sounds, somewhat detached feeling and somewhat bewildering.

Constructive Comments: I like the song however, I think a bridge would really make it into a great song. I think a bass guitar and lead guitar would also help this, I also would add some drums toward the end of the song – best wishes!

Positive Comments: Very well executed and developed film score material, Sounds like it could be used in an action fantasy post apocalypse theme.I get a sense of bubbling water so maybe something like ” Water world ” with an ocean theme.

Constructive Comments: Same as above, well done, could work in a number of places perhaps also some post industrial types of fantasy adventure kind of things. Many potential uses.

Positive Comments: You have a great country voice. This is a nice traditional country song. The arrangement could have been stronger in places, but i like the simple melody. Nice song.

Constructive Comments: There were a few pitchy spots on high notes. i liked the tenderness in the song, but the chorus needed something to make it stand out, It felt like the chorus was the same ryhthem as the song and it caused it to drag in spaces. The ending was a little sudden, a little more fade out would make it stronger.

Positive Comments: You have a nice voice with a good quality recording of a nice country song. You sang it well and it sounded modern for country.Although the hook did not grab me, the lyrics told a story.A nice country voice.

Constructive Comments: The hook needed something for me. I think the hook was too generic and it made me loose intrest. It sounded similiar to other songs. It was pretty and well produced but needed something in the lyrics to make it special.
