Song: Alone On Valentines Day Again (Pop Folk)

Reviewer: James Neilson Graham

Positive Comments: Courageous lyrics. The song gives a voice to those for whom Christmas/Valentine’s Day is something to dread – a counterweight to all the happiness-hype.The setting is courageous too – stripped down guitar playing, scrunchy harmonies and spare rhythms.

Constructive Comments: Singer-songwriter with a unique flavour . . . nice to find adventurous music-making on Broadjam

Positive Comments: Very nice, tight swing tune. Good jazz chord work on guitar and the sax was outstanding (I love sax!). This really grabbed me and kept me swinging the entire way. The vocal tone was just right for this and the entire performance was outstanding.

Constructive Comments: The only thing I can think of that could possibly add to this would be a female backup chorus. That would knock this out of the park – but that is just a personal preference. This stands very well just the way it is.

Song: I’D BE A RICH MAN NOW

Positive Comments: In general, I liked the smooth, laid back feel of this song. The vocal fit well and the harmony was nicely placed. The guitar put this firmly in a blues genre and the keyboards had a nice groove.

Constructive Comments: I felt that the added percussion, other than the basic drum kit, took away from the smooth feel and filled spaces that I think would have been better left open. I think the old adage “less is more” might apply here, especially since the keyboards and guitar were carrying this very nicely by themselves. Without those percussion additions, this would have been even smoother with a nice air of mystery.

Positive Comments: Jamming on down the highway in a solid 70’s blues rock style, very well done, some really tasty guitar playing , msokin rhythm section.

Constructive Comments: It’s really well played, I can see it getting into the right soundtrack. If I had a criticism it would be that the melody as such isn’t very memorable ,its pretty much just running up a scale. It’s more the energy and the feel along with some very good performances that keep it moving. Would not surprise me if this was a song with lyrics that got slightly revamped to be an instrumental, but it is very well played.

Positive Comments: nicely done. Good arrangement. Very nice keyboard work. The vocals are passionate and honest. Nice job

Constructive Comments: Vocal needs to be brought out in the mix just a tad more. some of the keyboard percussion could stand to be mixed a little better. (e.g. the chimes on the end were too short…lengthen them or add some wetness via processing to them) But, those are the little details…overall, good song and good performance.

Constructive Comments: this isnt really a big deal, but I’d like to hear a bit more processing on the vocals…just a touch of reverb should do it…(a very small amount) but overall, very well done.
