Song: MADDY
Reviewer: Ober Rivers And His DUI’S
Positive Comments: Very 70’s Doobie Brothers with Michael Macdonald sound in an extremely well produced sentimental pop ballad … very well done indeed.
Constructive Comments: This is really well done and on any technical level I have no criticism … but if I was asked to produce it, I’d make two suggestions … first, the actual hook is not clear to me, the topic is clear and focused and the lyrics well written. But that single repetitive line and musical phrase that stick’s in someone’s head and makes them respond immediately is not really there … two … I’d do it in a modern country pop style like say Tim McGraw. The lyrics, the topic, the sentimentality, are all tailor made for a US based country pop audience, the Doobie Brothers are playing state fairs in Des Moines and biker bars in Encino … this song ” could” be a real big popular hit, but it misses by a few inches. Which isn’t much, but probably just about enough to prevent it from getting serious big time radio play.
