Song: Shine (Instrumental)

Positive Comments: production is strong – drum tones are excellent and the bass part is very nice as well. Melody is strong and fits the chord progressions well – the groove of the song is also quite nice, gives me a nice, warm feeling.

Constructive Comments: the synth lead doesn’t do it for me at all – this is such a nicely constructed piece – I would love to hear lyrics to that melody – I think then you’d have quite a song – as is, sans vocals, I could still hear this as background to some travelog infomercial endeavor.

Song: Say It Isn’t You

Reviewer: paul sandberg

Positive Comments: the chord structure, while not original, flows nicely – I could hear this being background to a tv show or film

Constructive Comments: meter is all over the place from start to finish – the performance can really use some polish. It sounds like the performer isn’t totally committed to the song, is a bit hesitant and not truly in the moment of the performance (aside from the fluxuation in tempo with rushed notes and others lagging).

Song: Young Lover

Reviewer: paul sandberg

Positive Comments: nicely constructed with strong supporting vocals and an equally strong and convincing and sincere lead vocal performance.

Constructive Comments: from the production side this feels a bit shrill and could use more bottom end. While the story being told in the lyrics are worthwhile I found “lover” to just seem the wrong sentiment for me – perhaps there is a better way to say that she is young and she loves – but for me anyway, saying “young lover” sounds almost lewd, like she’s a hookup and not what the song is trying to say at all.

Song: The Wind/With Phoebe Blume

Positive Comments: I love classic songwriting, and this sounds like a throwback to the so-called “great AMerican songbook” kind of song. It also has a touch of French “chanson.” It’s a nice thing to hear something like this instead of another folky rock song!

Constructive Comments: I just find the lyric wanders a bit, never really settles down into one lyric “hook.” So until I clicked on the lyrics link, I really couldn’t guess what the title was. The recording serves to showcase the song, but it is very basic, if there could be a synth “strings” track or solo from some other instrument, that would add color.
