Song: What a Shame

Reviewer: Phil Bouldry

Positive Comments: This song has little to no commercial appeal that I can see, or hear. It is only a guitar vocal demo and is in no way ready for airplay. Perhaps that is not the goal anyway. The lyric, the wording, does not flow smoothly. There is no “hook” to speak of. However, I believe that what it has to say is important. This song reminds me of Bob Dylan in his early years, as does the singer’s voice.. The vocalist has a good voice, seems to always be in tune.I want you to know that to be as fair as I could, I listened to this song several times, and studied the lyric to truly try to understand what message you are trying to share.

Constructive Comments: This song has far to go to be acceptable to “the masses”. If that is not your goal then fine. It needs to have a lyric revision for smoother flow and clarity of the message being conveyed. It needs better production, more vocals, better recording quality. I hate to be a Simon Cowell here, but this song is not ready for anyone but your mother and your girlfriend.

Positive Comments: Simple home production, but in this case, effective without all the extra trappings. I personally like the minimalism.

Constructive Comments: Having done a few things in a similar vein, sound-wise, I relate to this, but I believe this would be served well if there was a greater dynamic variation, some real tension and release.

Positive Comments: Every now and then, someone captures a bit of the magic that previous great artists have imparted. This is one of those times. You wear your influences on you sleeve and they are great. The lyrics, the vocals, the arrangement…all solid as a rock.

Constructive Comments: If I had a sniglet at all, it would be the programmed rhythm section doesn’t do it for me like real live players.
