Song: Sway

Reviewer: Bob Birthisel

Positive Comments: Really nice chord progression, and the lyric line is interesting. Very current-sounding which normally is a bad thing for me, but this song is the exception. It’s just excellently-crafted. The balance is outstanding as well, and while not as totally clean as I’d like it fits the genre and works.

Constructive Comments: Still don’t know the title of the song, so the “hook” got marked down a bit, and the instrumentation was effective but not as high level as the songwriting. Being a 20+ year drummer I still expect total tightness on drums and bass and there were a couple mini-lapses. But great song overall — I really enjoyed it.

Positive Comments: Well done tune the vocals were perfect for the song the lyrics were from the heart and told a story I could relate to(very important) the instrumentation was low key but very fitting I thought this is an excellent effort and could certainly land in a film or TV show. Well Done!

Constructive Comments: The only suggestion is I was playing a Pop song if you went more Country you would most likely have a better chance to land it. Just a thought. Either way a great job!

Positive Comments: Where do I begin? I really enjoyed listening to this song. It brought me back to the 70’s or 80’s yet it does have a more modern feel. Maybe lyrically back in the day and that is a good think. Lyrics are supposed to say something emotionally, tell a story, and paint a picture. You hit all 3 of those criteria. The arrangement is really nice mellow and works nicely with the song. The instrumentation was very well done I especially enjoyed the guitar solo. Great job should find a home in a period film or TV show.

Constructive Comments: The only true constructive thing I can say here is the hook is not memorable. I am not sure what the title is and I can’t repeat the lyric in my head. Old School a repetitive hook that sums up the feeling or lyric is always a winner. Other than that an A is in line!

Positive Comments: very much a Leonard Cohen feel to this, the verses and the lyrics work quite well – the use of a 2nd vocal is nice, although not sure about its use in the chorus, basically because it makes the overall vocal line too strong for the piano accompaniment.vocals are sung with feeling.

Constructive Comments: in the first verse the P in happy pops. For me the melody of the chorus does not fit the piano – it’s as if the piano is still playing the verse and the vocals go somewhere else. The overall mix could be warmer to my ear – a bit more reverb and eq – rolling off the high end would help I think

Positive Comments: love the guitar work and the guitar tone – very understated Knoffleresque. The lyrics are very nice, although, while I understand the vision of rain dripping off of a petal like it was melting, I was a bit taken back by the idea of rain melting…the recording is solid and really liked the ending of the song.the harmony vocals are really nice as well

Constructive Comments: the beat itself seems quite cliche and worn to me – like I’ve heard that rhythm 100 times before – not that it doesn’t work and isn’t effective, just that it gives me a been there, heard that feel, while the rest of the song makes me pay attention.
