Song: Holding Out
Reviewer: Mike Nicholson
Positive Comments: Great vocal. Very evocative. Love the steel/slide guitar. Nice chord progression. Beautiful soaring vocal arrangement. Obvious skill in writing here. I like the dynamics work. Nice arrangement pattern. Gets right to the point of the song. The piano is cool and moody.
Constructive Comments: So the problems are few but the pushy 8th note bass detracts from the laid back drums. I would play more on just the one and three or make the drums more pushy. Not sure if those are real drums or just a machine. They are murky and distant and that is a cool vibe but the vocal and acoustic guitar are right there in your face and present. Bring the vocal down into the mix and crisp up the drums and you have a hit!
