Song: The Lonely

Reviewer: Sam Cooper

Positive Comments: Solid instrumental performance. I can hear a Bob Seeger-style influence in the structure of the song.

Constructive Comments: The vocal recording isn’t as crisp as it could be, technically speaking, and there’s room for more passion in the singing. It might be worth going back in and re-recording.

Positive Comments: Nice song! Peaceful, flowing vibe, yet evocative with abounding metaphors. Very well thought out lyrics that complimented the pretty music. I also enjoyed the vocal overlaps or background harmonies. Reminds me of Christopher Cross, “Sailing” in the style and pace of the song. Well done!

Constructive Comments: I couldn’t add anything that I can think of. Very nice song!

Positive Comments: Peppy song, some unique sounding instruments, sounded authentic. At the very end it sound like it was a live performance

Constructive Comments: Recording quality not that clear but I think was due to live performance. Maybe a studio mix would spruce up the song a lot

Positive Comments: I guess this is s Yardbirds cover song. It’s kind of hard to review in that most of the survey questions relate to original songs. Great instrumentation and vocals. This sounded like s totally professional band with legit very talented musicians. That’s for sure

Constructive Comments: Again I’m not sure what to say about a cover song. It sounded great to me. I have not heard the Yardbirds actual version of it so hard to compare

Constructive Comments: I was looking for a chord change to happen, which it never did. It’s a tad repetitive, nice groove, but would be even better if you would change it up a bit. That being said, nice done!

Positive Comments: Nice, chill song, reminds me of “wasting Away a Margarita” by Eagles. I liked the crystal clear lyrics, easy to hear. I also enjoyed the subtle harmony, female singer faintly in background-nice touch

Constructive Comments: Maybe if the song were a bit shorter, although the lyrics kept it interesting.

Positive Comments: Fun song with a positive message. Clever lyrics… really enjoying the B section. Love the silliness and playful interaction in this song. Sounds like some friends hanging out and instead of talking with one another, they decided to sing to each other. Song could translate to a theater show, play… Broadway! I enjoy the panning of the vocals, very good job tracking this because sorting tracks can get confusing. Loved the harmonic phrasings too.

Constructive Comments: This is a tough mix because of all the ‘unorthodox’ components and parts. So inherent with that comes unbalanced volume relationships, occasional noise. You fared very well here… considering all that is going on within this song, the sound is pretty clean, no distortion or odd sounding punches (some low end issues and the acoustic bass comes in and out needing more compression). Great job on this song!!!

Positive Comments: Great sounds right away. The sound created here is really nice. I am enjoying the wide panning of guitars and the use of delay and reverb. The groove is awesome, lots of flavor. Addition of the sequence in the B section was a great progression, brought the song from the island to the dance floor. The vibe in this track is killin!! I love the mix, string pad placed very well and the overall use of effects in this song should be used in a clinic! The hook is just right, not trying to do too much and staying with a simple theme. Bringing the pad in in the end like that was magical!

Constructive Comments: Rhythm guitar transitioning at 2:05 wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked but you covered it well by building the section into something before hitting back to the theme. There’s a lot of soul in this recording. The sounds are dope!
