Broadjam Artist: Teri Feaser
Song: Oh Father
Reviewer: Good Advice
Positive Comments: I thought this was really well arranged and recorded. All the instruments could be heard and none seemed too loud or too quiet, and they all complimented each other well and presented a very good unified whole. The singer has a good voice, maybe a bit too “Rush”-like at times but a good voice.
Constructive Comments: Lyrically I thought this could be further developed. Its not that any of the lyrics were garishly awful or anything like that. I thought that the overarching story and metaphor got a little vague at times. It felt like at times you were really having trouble finding the right words to carry on your theme. It was as if instead of walking a straight line, you kinda wandered back and forth while still going in the same general direction. Like for me, the “pocket…locket” lyric was particularly odd and off to me. At one point you mention a “master”, you only mentioned it once, and made no allusions to it at any other time, so how is that not a deviation? It’s subtle things like this that are the difference between a song that is really poignant and meaningful to a listener and a song that even though it sounds good fails to make a serious connection with a listener. At the end of the day you guys do good work and produce good stuff, but I think for you to achieve a next level you need to start being a bit more focused and demanding of yourselves when it comes to lyrical themes and editing.
