Positive Comments: This was well recorded and had a good balance, so you should use it as a template of what to do for further recordings.

Constructive Comments: The piano becomes extremely repetitive. By 1:30 mark I am dying for it to make a change and it just keeps right on chugging along. The horns couldn’t help mask it, and I think the horns just played what the piano did so it didn’t exactly offer anything new. There is a giant massive problem with this song, I don’t want to think you got poor marks for nothing. I want you to go back and listen to this song, and every time the guitar stops playing and pauses before playing again I want you to make a check mark on a piece of paper. When the song is over, count all those check marks and ask yourself if that seems like a big number. My guess is its over 120 times you stop and start, that’s my guess, my fear is that it is even more. You know what screw that, I am going to re-listen to this and do it myself… My count was 54 times in a 4:26 song which is 266 seconds, which means you average one pause every 4.9 seconds. Let’s say I iscount and it only 40 times. That is one pause every 6.4 seconds on average. Right there, that is your reason for the bad scores. You can get mad all you want but the math ain’t lying to you. Dramatic pauses are supposed to be poignant, meaningful, and judiciously used, not rampant and every present.

Positive Comments: You may have noticed that I only scored you on three categories. That is because they were the only categories I felt comfortable scoring you for because the recording was extremely poor. I can’t score you on things I can’t really hear.

Constructive Comments: When I come across sound quality this bad in a recording that comes up for review, it makes me want to ask you a couple questions. What were you hoping to achieve putting this up for review? Its a terrible recording that has had almost no work done to it as far as the balance and tweeking tracks goes, was this you putting your best foot forward? What are your goals here? Does putting something up for review that is clearly unpolished unrefined and comes across as a sketch of a song help you achieve those goals? Those are some of the questions I would ask you based on what I listened to. I’m not saying these things to be an asshole, on the contrary, I am actually trying to help you. You see, there were hints in there that this might be a pretty decent song, but I have no way of knowing. It sounded like you had a real drummer, but truthfully I didn’t know for sure whether it was or not. I thought it was. I don’t know how you recorded your drummer, but typically you do it with a mic for each piece of the kit or as close as you can get so you can have a different track to mix for each piece. This sounds like you had one mic and it was on the other side of the room, which made the drums in the recording sound like they were in a different state when you recorded it.I don’t know how you recorded the guitar, but the melody was almost indiscernible. It came across as about 75% white noise.it also doesn’t sound like there was any work done to the mix, whether it be adjusting levels or tweaking tracks or anything. If someone did work this mix, and this is what they came up with then they are terrible and should never mix one of your songs again. They have no clue what they are doing. You don’t need a masters degree in sound editing to mix a song, but you do need to have some basic clue as to what you are doing. And whoever mixed this had no clue whatsoever. It’s a shame, there might be a good song here, I heard hints of one, but the recording is so terrible i have no way of knowing and that is just a shame. For most musicians you have one chance to make an impression on someone, you have one chance to make them take you seriously. So my final question to you is, are you satisfied with this recording being that one chance?

Song: Coming Home To You / Rock & Roll

Reviewer: Mitch Siegal

Positive Comments: Solid arrangement, and decent hook.

Constructive Comments: I would have liked to hear a little more variance instrumentally to break it up a bit allowing for more sectional contrast here and there. The recording was a bit low volume wise, try playing around with some pre programmed waves plugins such as their compressor perhaps. just a thought, good luck to you!
