Song: Go to hell

Positive Comments: Ha! This really strongly reminds me of stuff from the 80s…it’s got a Ghostbusters / Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ era thing going on! I actually really enjoyed this & it’s not at all what I would normally listen to! Some great accents – the rapper is a character and the female singer is great. Also, the lyrics and intelligent rhythms of the song were memorable & whoever did the production got it pretty much spot on. Nice!
Constructive Comments: The one thing I don’t like at all is the ‘scream’? that comes in at a very high pitch a few times. If you leave it in, mix it down because on headphones it just hurts the ears! The rapper has a lovely accent but starting the track with this may create a bit of a false impression – I was surprised when the female vocal came in.

Broadjam Artist: Margie & Art Corey
Song: Chain Of Sin
Reviewer: Kirsty McGee
Positive Comments: I found the production cool and intriguing. Especially some of the dirtier aspects. You could have gone further in the industrial / dirty direction and it would have worked well. Made it have a few more sharp teeth and a bit more grit – but you’d have a careful balancing act to retain the motion of the song and its laid back gravel. I enjoyed the Leonard Cohen esque voice and the song has a real cool factor.
Constructive Comments: There’s no sub category for Americana in the choices but I didn’t think it fitted in the folk category. I couldn’t really make out the lyrics so maybe bringing the voice out further in front would have helped the message of the song. In my opinion some tightening up on the structure could make this really ‘poke’…I listened to 3.5 minutes of it and it felt that this would have been the ideal length. Bringing in the B section at this point was a bit like introducing a new character 200 pages into a novel & that didn’t work for me. Just personal opinion though. I like things snappy in general. I felt like it was so nearly there in so many ways, but just needed some tidying up.

Broadjam Artist: Delta Burnett Reed
Song: Summer Time Classic

Positive Comments: I loved this singer’s accent! A really unusual and captivating voice with good range.I liked the sparseness of the arrangement & I thought she did justice to what could have been a very difficult song to cover as it’s so ubiquitous. Overall I thought it was a lovely and sensuous take on the song.
Constructive Comments: Be careful with ‘ma is good looking’ – so it’s not ‘mashy’If you wanted to use this commercially I’d definitely think about re-recording with ‘real’ strings. Maybe a really good double bass player. The keyboard strings work but there’s something so classy about authentic instrumentation keep it this pared down though because the song speaks for itself and the voice is powerful and original.

Broadjam Artist: Chet Nichols
Song: Sunday Morning (Solo)
Reviewer: Kirsty McGee
Positive Comments: Some lovely lyrical moments & reminiscence. I enjoyed the lilac scented air, the lush food references and the sensuousness of some of the lyrics. I’d love to have heard the voice a little bit closer mic’ed for detail. At the moment it’s a bit drowned by the guitars.
Constructive Comments: Guitars mixed too loudly, especially compared to the voice. I felt as though it might be good to take this away and re-record or re-mix it. It actually would sound pretty cool with some strings and maybe a middle section that created a break from the voice. To hear the voice come back in after a short interlude would be lovely.

Positive Comments: Fun. Loved the backing vocals. This is extremely kooky stuff. Someone with a real character wrote this! I can also relate as a long-term vegan…I imagine that this is an extremely popular and much requested song in this artist’s live show. I enjoyed the single chord on the guitar. Why use more if you can get away with just the one? Especially as the backing vocal game was so strong.
Constructive Comments: If the artist wanted to capitalise on this on a commercial basis it might have to be re-recorded on re-mastered. Whilst it was a lot of fun, it felt a bit low in my cans.

Positive Comments: Neil Young esque Nice hooky chorus. The general feel is uplifting, which is nice. Overall this was well executed and I liked the voice. There were some nice hooks.
Constructive Comments: I’d love it if the female backing vocals were singing ‘shine on me’ twice rather than ‘shine on you, shine on me’ as this would be less distracting from the main vocal. I wasn’t sure about the electric guitar and I did feel that the lyric was perhaps a little obvious
