Broadjam Artist: The Watchman
Song: Hold On
Reviewer: Jeff Roberts
Positive Comments: Totally liking this right from the opening groove that could be an Alabama Shakes tune. And it just keeps getting better with the tasty Wurlitzer keys and relaxed, soulful vocals that sound a bit like Ry Cooder. Phil Cook is a more contemporary reference. There’s a classic Gospel feel underneath this, and there are some superb lyrics, with a slam dunk hook on the chorus. Hearing tunes like this is what makes reviewing worth the time and effort–this is excellent!
Constructive Comments: There are a few places where I think you need to fix the pitch of the vocals. More harmony vocals coming in behind would do so much to this–imagine if you have the Blind Boys of Alabama coming in. Listen to The Blind Boys of Alabama & Taj Mahal – What Can I Do? This is so so good but make it GREAT.
