Song: The Watcher

Positive Comments: This sounds so much like Triumph from the early 80’s with the high range & energy earnest vocals/lyrics and blasting guitar. Solid playing all around with driving bass and very good drums that play the song well, along with the hot guitar playing. A powerful vocal performance and vocal phrasing that fits the song perfectly.
Constructive Comments: I’m giving high scores because things are done well. But the mix is overblown with the guitar too high and IMO too distorted–I love heavy guitar but there’s a break point where the sound goes from crunch to rasp, and I think you’re well past it. It can sound great in the room and then the recording misses that feel. I’d like to hear what it sounds like with only one rhythm guitar track and a low level reverb of it sent to the other side. The vocals feel too strained for my taste–you hit all the notes but it’s so intense. Really it’s more a question of timing–this would have been radio material in ’82 – ’86 during the Triumph, Night Ranger, Loverboy years, but the sound isn’t current. If it’s the sound you love though that’s what matters and you just gotta find listeners who like it too!
