Positive Comments: Nice touch with the Jazz piano changes underneath–this gives a very sophisticated feel. I hear echoes of The Roots and even Diggable Planets. Big compelling voice and the story line pulls you in. The empty arrangement at the very end with the muted bass and the overly chorused guitar part is super cool. There’s a lotta really good stuff going on here. Clever trope here: my wife is Hip Hop.
Constructive Comments: Don’t open up with “fuck” at least not so soon–later on ‘fuck outa here’ works well. But really it detracts from an otherwise slick and mature tune. Even more so with “nigga”. Man it’s time to drop that from the vocabulary IMO. I think you repeat the last hook “real hip hop” too many times in the last section. This is working really well–I think there are tweaks needed and maybe more work on the arrangement but this would be subtle stuff that takes a long time to figure out and experiment with.

Positive Comments: Excellent intro–love the guitar tone and the bass works very well with the slinky drums. When the oohs come in and you move to the step higher chord it gives a moody cool Prog feel much like Porcupine Tree. There’s a subtle drop out / hold part in the verses that’s very artful. This is dark & moody, and it reminds me of The Amazing, Explosions in the Sky, Porcupine Tree and maybe Incubus. Tremendous potential in this tune–I really enjoyed hearing it!
Constructive Comments: There’s a bit too much busy cymbal work at the end of the verse I think. Also the overactive snare fills don’t fit the tune. The vocals need to come up more and dominate the mix. There are pitch issues on the answering “ooo ooo” vocal parts. At 3:45 you’re going into a new section with the 16th high hats, which is very cool but it’s way too late in the tune to introduce new parts unless you’re going for a 30 minute post rock extravaganza. There is a very good tune here that’s got a number of flaws in the current version, IMO of course. I’d love to hear this done to perfection.

Song: Harder To Hold
Reviewer: Jeff Roberts
Positive Comments: This has both a Guns n Roses vibe and a later Weezer/Offspring sound. Very tight drums that play to the song perfectly and give a danceable hard rock groove. Good guitar tones and lead parts. The chorus has a good lift. There’s a very cool riff sneaking into the later verses–nice touch! The drop out section with bass & drums is a great move and it sounds cool.
Constructive Comments: The vocal is not quite pulling off the high notes with authority and good pitch on the high parts–this is a part that’s designed for a real belter and this voice isn’t there. And so…go get one or re-write to suit the voice you have (I’d argue for the latter). The phrasing and melody on the verses is a bit tired and cliche to my ears–it’s a really old & overdone “ba de ba ba ba ba….wait…ba de ba de ba” thing. But that’s me–if you like that sound then that’s what matters. But you do need real guts in the vocal to pull it off. The same voice with lofi /distortion could pull it off. If you move the bass with the drums instead of following the guitar chords behind the beat it will add tremendous energy to the tune–try it and see.

Positive Comments: Cool intro mood and there’s a good groove throughout here. I like the energy of the bass register parts. Also the late introduction of some Asian-sounding elements in the melodic and instrument timbre–this is my favorite part.
Constructive Comments: I think adding some counter melodice parts with contrasting textures and a 16th note syncopation would give a complexity and more interest? But it’d be try and see if it improves kinda thing…
