Song: Spanish Lullaby (ft. Alex Lomas & Peter Richmond)
Reviewer: Jeff Roberts
Positive Comments: Nice guitar intro–with a really nice tone and execution–that reminds me of the intro to From the Beginning by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer–one of my favorites. Then I’m totally surprised and blown away but the appearance of the wonderful baritone vocals that sound like Tony Bennett & Sinatra put together. The tune itself reminds me of something from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar (another favorite). This sounds like a cult classic from the 70’s. Tremendous writing, guitar work and vocals here. Wow!!!
Constructive Comments: The guitar intro is nice but I think it meanders a bit, and should be much shorter–go ahead into the vocals more quickly. When you go into the Malaquena part it may be running too long–this would be a separate tune IMO.

Positive Comments: A very competent guitar strut with a Smoke on the Water feel (that organ is pure John Lord!). In the middle section the guitar solo starts to cut loose and show off some healthy chops!
Constructive Comments: You gotta get a better drum track and pan it properly–you’ve got it all coming in from the left side. The lead phrasing is very boxed into 8ths on the beat until you break into the wah section, and there it’s pretty hot! This really generic unfortunately. In 1972 it would have scored tons of hippie chicks though.

Song: Brand New Day
Reviewer: Jeff Roberts
Positive Comments: At first this reminds me of The Human League (Don’t You Want Me Baby?). Definitely in the 80’s school –Human League, Howard Jones, Thompson Twins… It’s a well-crafted tune, and the vocal performance is strong with a nice tenor voice
Constructive Comments: The overall EQ of the instrumental tracks is very high mid without the satisfaction of a thicker bass section. I think I’d want to reel in the highs on the high hat / drum parts and make them more subdued and lofi, and remove the “syndrum” tom tom fills. Having some counterpoint 16th note sequenced key parts to add low level texture would be good (I think). There’s one basic rhythm/progression box here–it would make the tune breathe if you got out of that–mostly that would be altering the underlying drum grooves.

Positive Comments: This isn’t Ambient because there’s prominent melodic motif. More Electronica, and very good at that. I really like the melancholy vibe–there is a variety of haunting sounds and layers coming in and out, with the original motif appearing in numerous guises. Excellent work –I really enjoyed this one!!
Constructive Comments: The drum parts are clipping pretty badly. I think I’d move to a more pulse drum/percussion track without recognizable “drums” as such. The music of Ulrich Schnauss would be a good reference for this. I think there a number of arrangement tweaks yet? The “steinway” parts didn’t move me as much as the moody keys (and they really did).
