Song: The New
Reviewer: Jeff Roberts
Positive Comments: Very good bones here. Very nice guitar tone, tight & grooving drums, and a bass line that anchors and moves the song. Nice mood here, and the song has good bones.
Constructive Comments: WAY too late on vocals–I had already written a review saying “good tracks now add vocals”. You obviously aren’t writing a formulaic Pop song but still you need vocals coming in

Constructive Comments: WAY too late on vocals–I had already written a review saying “good tracks now add vocals”. You obviously aren’t writing a formulaic Pop song but still you need vocals coming in < 20 seconds. The drums are great but overpowering the mix. I'd like to know who you would point to as a model for this tune. The lyrics/melody meander a lot in a purely linear fashion--and some good songs do that but here it feels unfocused, and I don't get any sense of what the song is about. (And you can say it's about the *mood* and that's cool too.) I really think you need a lot of mix editing, overall structural editing, and vocal production work. And there's a really nice tune here that is worth all that.
