Positive Comments: The sounds used to make this are fantastic

Constructive Comments: Youve kind of crossed a threshold where the sounds are great… but now you need to add the dynamic swells using the mod wheel. Youve got the start to a very interesting piece of music but it is so stiff that it lacks the warmth and humanness it needs to get to the next level.

Song: McSong/ Contemporary Jazz

Reviewer: Dave Haddad (CenterPeace)

Positive Comments: Nice melodies. Good ideas. Good concept of phrasing. Sections and melodies were well defined. Some very quality features in this song. I can hear and sense the love you have for music. Feel like there is a good song in here.

Constructive Comments: Everything sounds a bit too programmed. For jazz I want to hear more live lead and rhythm instruments and less programmed drums. Lots of out of tune instruments, makes it hard to hear your song idea. Try to prepare better before you record, once it’s on “tape” it’s there forever. There is a lot of ‘hiss’ in this recording. Maybe it’s old and recorded on tape.i know you are only working with what you have at your disposal. My only problem with this song is the production….Nice job.

Positive Comments: Really cool groove. I love the feel and rhythm of this piece. You have a great beginning on this song. It is very catchy…the melody is stuck in my head and that’s a really good sign. Strong writing and composition. Great job.

Constructive Comments: As with me, I’m a keyboardist myself. I have realized that you can only do so much with synth, but it is possible to get great sounding compositions with what you have. Most engineers will critique it to pieces but is’s Alright…you use what you have access to. My suggestion(s): 1. The piece sounds very synthy.. Maybe adding some additional instrumentation will help with alleviating some of that. 2. Adding a 4 beat break at :35 and coming back in with some added strings, horns, hi hat, etc will give it a big lift. 3. At some point within this piece, a change in drum and percussion would take away from the monotony of the song and keep the listener intrigued about what’s going to happen next. You have a great piece here: it just needs a little lift and some remixing to bring it to life. Of course live instrumentation would really be great for your piece, but you have a good thing going right now…go with it and make it dynamic. You can do it!

Positive Comments: It was refreshing to hear someone doing a song that is so stark and naked without all the bells and whistles

Constructive Comments: I teetered back n forth… I thought the singer had beautiful tone, and was a perfect fit for the song. I only wish he would’ve loosened up a bit and gave it some more umph…singer seemed to restrained. The talking thing was cool and it fit the song… I liked the feel you created with that. In the mix I would’ve brought the piano and the vocal closer together so they don’t sound so different from one another. Piano sounds way back and vocal is so close its like he is singing into you ear. I got to be honest this is a very cool song. My comments were meant more as thoughts and observations, not so much negative comments.

Constructive Comments: Sadly the quality of the virtual instruments was so poor it was distracting for me. That should have no reflection upon your writing or the performance. Overall I thought the piece was very interesting… would love to have a chance to do a string arrangement for this
