Song: Beautiful Sound

Positive Comments: Adored the keys from the outset. Beautifully executed piece of music. Nice arrangement and variation. Stunning vocal harmonies. Smart rhythm programming/playing. Put it this way, when reviewing music on here I rarely get to the end, losing interest. I played this in its entirety – rare for me!

Constructive Comments: Through the verses I could hear the vocal line going up instead of staying on the same level, just to add interest.

Positive Comments: Digging the rhythm track and groove. Loved the octave guitar notes. Classy.

Constructive Comments: Enjoyed the tune but thought that the chorus rhythm guitar was at times too much in the mix. I’d consider dropping it out in more places so that when it is included it has more impact and doesn’t detract from the overall vibe. Variation is key.

Breathless / R&B by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Song: Breathless / R&B

Reviewer: Nigel Barrett

Positive Comments: Really liked the walking piano octave notes underneath the tune.

Constructive Comments: The chorus, whilst easily identifiable really lacked impact. I know some tunes work well when the music is the same throughout, but for me it just lacked another dimension. I would add a subtle pad chord underneath the chorus. Maybe drop the walking piano octave notes out during the chorus? Alternatively leave them out of the verse and add them only during the chorus, otherwise for me the chorus lacks something.

Positive Comments: Love the hook and message of the song, as well as the authenticity of the vocal performance. Lyrics are top notch throughout, in my opinion. The overall mood of instrumentation and arrangement is very cool also. Reminds me of Paul Simon or Billy Joel, both of which I like. It’s also cool how you snuck the accordion in there, cool accent!

Constructive Comments: I gave a few lower scores on the Quality of instrumentation and quality of recording because the samples used are a little obvious at times and just make it sound a bit thin for the folk genre (which has mostly real instruments). I would say it is most noticeable in the percussion. Honestly the lyric content is so great that I think some of the additional instrumentation takes away from the emotional grab. I would imagine an acoustic or piano performance of the song might even be more effective just because the vocal and lyrics are really great!!Hope this helps!! Enjoyed it!

Positive Comments: It has an old school country sound, kinf od reminded me of Willie nelson Style. It was a concept I have not heard in a song before, a nice clever hook. This is a fun song.

Constructive Comments: I felt like it needed a little more in the arrangement, it was kind of basic. There were a few spots that was a little pitchy, but over all you sang it very well.

ESPN GIRL by Mark S. Ludes (MSL)

Song: ESPN GIRL

Reviewer: Jeff Maguire

Positive Comments: Nice moving rock /R&B tune, driving beat and solid arrangement with some very emotive vocals.Reminds me a little bit of 80’s style Bryan Adams.

Constructive Comments: Constructive criticism would be recording itself is a little flat, maybe a little less drums though that could be taste. Lyrics have a very nice flow and rhyme to them. Very well put together overall, especially if this is a one man show, maybe could stand a little more pop, I suspect the drums are canned.
