Broadjam Artist: Smokin Joe Pilloud
Song: Talk Radio

Reviewer: Jeff Maguire

Positive Comments: Late night radio indeed, could easily serve as a radio spot, soulful sound.

Constructive Comments: I like the song, vocalist has deep soulful voice , but the recording is weak. There is some deep reverb type of effect on the voice which doesn’t sound good to my ear. Performances are good, nice bg vocals are nice, ect… I think it just needs to be produced and recorded better.

Song: Words are for songwriters (2015)

Positive Comments: I stumbled across this musical piece in the electronic – experimental genre and so, I played it all the way through to see if this experiment is going to work. And oooh… Yes, it does work. Albeit, there are very strange happenings going on in this music and it kept my ear all the way to the end and I also got into a groove as I took some overly dramatic selfies while I was listening I really got into it. There were a few spots in this musical piece where I think the alcohol in my cough syrup kicked in – all in all I had fun listening and so did my pet turtle!

Constructive Comments: Since this is an experiment I say we through out the beakers and let this stand on it’s own. It’s strange, unique and I’m guessing could be used in some kind of media out there as a backing of sorts or a curiously strange music video. All the elements are good in the mix. I gave lyrics and vocals middle-of-the-road. Have a great new year!

Broadjam Artist: Chet Nichols

Positive Comments: This is the kind of music I like to listen to on a Sunday morning relaxed, the sun shining in through the windows of this humble home and I’m relaxing with a cup of hot coffee with my dog, Joe. This is a smooth jazzy piece that would also be nice to hear on a service like “The Weather Channel” or something similar in media.

Constructive Comments: This piece definitely needs an introduction. The genre is classified as New Age and without a fade-in or some bars to set the environment it kind of goes against New Age in a way. I classified this as Smooth Jazz. There is a guitar that is panned to the left and I found it distracting some the instrument is not the problem, just where it sits in the sound field. The instrumentation on this piece is done well. In my opinion only, I think some kind of pauses or breaks are needed to let the ear rest and ingest what is being played and set up the next phrase in the composition. The first pause I can ascertain is around the 3:45 mark. Please remember, until now, we have never heard this before and we don’t know the artist or how this was made. We hope you have a great 2017!
