Positive Comments: Great song. I like the hook. Great job.

Constructive Comments: This song is really close. I think the recording and arrangement could use a little work. The lead guitar in a few places is off a bit. I think a good producer would get this song over the top.

Song: Fearsome Blues Instrumental

Reviewer: Ober Rivers And His DUI’S

Positive Comments: Pleasant enough little country blues romp.

Constructive Comments: This sounds like another example of just taking the vocal out of a properly composed song to get a free instrumental. Which might be a fair enough cost effective way of getting an instrumental with soundtrack potential, but it isn’t really writing music in any meaningful way. The most important aspect of composing is melody writing, everything else comes after that. It is well enough performed in terms of what it is, it might sell into a soundtrack, presumably that is the intent.

Positive Comments: * varying use of rhythms and sounds which kept my interest going throughout* enjoyed the 90s dirty electro sounds that come through this track

Constructive Comments: * yes, it’s electronic, but I wouldn’t call it electronic dance* although you use interesting and unusual sounds, the track didn’t gel well for an electronic dance track, but I’m sure it’ll go down well in a grunge club

Positive Comments: * enjoyed the bluesy/jazzy feel to this track* particularly enjoyed the middle section when you brought in the shaker and the melody took a pleasantly surprising turn

Constructive Comments: * there’s something about the track that doesn’t gel or hold well together – the various instruments don’t work together for some reason – the main instrument providing the melody has a childlike feel to it…* this doesn’t fall within the electronic dance genre

Positive Comments: Slow blues in E , maybe in the style of ” Red House ” or some of Stevie Rays slower stuff, well played overall.

Constructive Comments: Well it’s a blues in E with no frills, so how well it comes across depends totally on performance. Playing is all highly competent, which is good, but on a scale where Hendrix is a 10,or Stevie is a 9, this is about 6 or 7. Which is actually pretty good, when you consider who the comparison is being made to. But those last two notches are a bitch. I suppose I’d search for ways to make it more intense, it could be in the playing, or the arrangement, but three chords for 5 minutes needs a …. PUSH to get it over the top.

Positive Comments: Pretty tune. Nice song.

Constructive Comments: I would consider working on the lyrics. “Why does Love have to be so sad” is repeated 4 times. I think you could work on that. Something like “This time things worked out bad, Why does Love have to be so sad, Didn’t realize all that I had, Why does Love have to be so sad” It would just make it a little more interesting.
