Positive Comments: This opens up sounding very much like Ryan Adams’ “New York, New York”. This sounds better with each listen. Really really strong writing in terms of structure, melody, and lyrics. Very nice vocal performance. I really like the chord lift on the pre chorus–it’s a great setup for the chorus/refrain.

Constructive Comments: Listen closely to Ryan Adams’ “New York, New York” for comparison against a masterpiece. First thing drop the effects on the rhythm guitar and go for nice clean, warm sound, and add or substitute and jangly, strumming acoustic guitar part. I think the bass is too plonk plonk plonk in the verses–it sounds like Boston’s “Long Time”, which was 40 years ago. Having it groove and gently move would add a lot. I’d take most of the slapback off the lead vocal, and put some tube drive and just the tiniest bit of distortion in to give it some grit. There’s a bit too much low mid in the vocal–it accentuates the somewhat nasal tone you have. I really don’t like the solo guitar at all. It’s trying to hard, and putting too much Dickie Betts intensity. And the sound is harsh. Simpler, major pentatonic with a smooth tone would be better. All IMO and all intended to help with the tune. This is really solid writing, playing, and singing!
