Positive Comments: I love it when I come upon a song that has a terrific, unique melody. That’s the first thing that hits me. The lyrics tell the story of keeping from getting burned by love in a different refreshing way and they fit the mood of the melody perfectly. Instrumentally great and performed with the smooth wit and everyman vocals that are like Don Williams. Drums have an easy beat and guitar notes are arranged with imagination. A first rate song! I’ll have to look this one up and download it. You should, too.

Constructive Comments: The best constructive advice is not to do anything else to it. It does what it was meant to do.

Positive Comments: Welcome to Bozo’s Big Top on Steroids! Wackiness to the tenth power! This juvenile cornball craziness doesn’t follow any compositional etiquette. It bounces, blasts, and makes mockery of every circus theme you’ve heard of…and it’s done skillfully with frenetic finesse. Never has getting annoyed by anything been so much danged fun!!!

Constructive Comments: Three beers and a toast to the maestro!

Positive Comments: Really good mix. Sounds perfect in my monitors. Excellent guitars, really nicely done. I had to turn this one up a few notches.

Constructive Comments: The guitarist kicks ass. Whoever is doing your mixes deserves a whisky and a pat on the back. If it’s all you, have that whisky and receive my congratulations.

Constructive Comments: Those are programmed drums, right? First thing out I thought…I’d lose the electronic drums and hire a session drummer to replace the drum track. The rest of the instruments sound great. The drums sound “fine”…but not up to par with the rest.

Positive Comments: As far as “metal” tracks go, this is fairly good. Maybe it’s not metal…but I’m not sure exactly where it fits in the Rock genre. The vocals are well sung, guitars are good.

Constructive Comments: Mix doesn’t sizzle. This has a bit too much lower end rumble, and the drums are not “present” in my monitors at low to medium volumes. they are there when I crank it to 11, however! 🙂 But it really needs the lower frequencies controlled and the snare brought forward slightly. Might need to run the guitars through a Hi-Pass filter to remove a touch of their lower end to clean up the mud around the bass and the kick drum. That might do it.

Positive Comments: Overall very good recording. The song structure is complete, well done. Nice intro that catches the attention and holds it to the build. Very good vocals and instrumentation.

Constructive Comments: The bass feels pretty light in the mix…maybe it’s just me, but it sounds very “clangy”, high frequency oriented, not enough lower frequency in the mix. In that sense it has a “1970s” sound to the mix…you know, when you had to have a mixer in the stereo, lower the mid range, and boost the lows. Overall, it is pretty darn good.

Positive Comments: There is a nugget of “something” there, but it feels like it was written to be a mellow ditty to be played in the background when you don’t want to actually pay attention to the music. So…maybe as a short backing track to a low budget romantic film it might work.

Constructive Comments: It could use a little more variation.

Positive Comments: The beat and groove are very nice, and the vocal sits nicely into the mix.

Constructive Comments: Somehow the rhythm section doesn’t pop. It feels like the drums and bass needed to be mixed a little differently, or compressed differently. Not sure. Just doesn’t sizzle. There’s a decent hook to the piece, but I felt it didn’t go anywhere, I was expecting a more dramatic change…Overall, fairly good. Could make a good background track in a TV show or movie, just doesn’t stand on its own two feet.

Positive Comments: The piano melody sets the mood and you have a good arrangement that builds as expected.

Constructive Comments: I was hoping for a little more variation in the arrangement. At 0:56 when the percussion starts, think about adding a different melody and/or instrument that counterplays to the melodies you’ve already established. Good luck!
