Song: You Turn Away

Reviewer: Will Sims

Positive Comments: The guitar leads aren’t too bad, I like the vibes that the keyboards give to the track. The vocal melody is pretty good, despite the quality of the recording. This song probably sounds really great in a live setting. The intro length is just right to lead into the vocals. The lyrics are well written as well.

Constructive Comments: The recording sounds like it was done privately as opposed to going to a professional studio. The vocal recording is weak, there’s a lot of off pitch moments, and the quality of recording is just not close to the industry standard. The singer has a good voice but a poor recording will not help it stand out the way you will want it to. You might be able to take the recorded music to a studio and have them mix it and retrack vocals and you could come out with a solid track that could get tv and film placements. It’s worth the money to get someone who knows what they’re doing. If you decide to go that route, make sure you research the local studios and talk to local artists about who is doing great recording. This song could really shoot up in quality with a better vocal recording. (the singer is fine, just the quality of recording is weak)

Positive Comments: Lyrically it seems like a fun song. It’s well written to the music. Musically it sounds like most of the bands written parts are okay, minus some leads sounding out of tune. This at least sounds like a band playing the song, which is more than I can say about a lot of the songs I’ve heard hear that sound like they were made completely on a computer. Guitar parts are pretty cool.

Constructive Comments: This recording sounds like it was made by the band, I seriously hope they didn’t pay anyone to record this. The guitar levels are all over the place, the vocals need more work done, they don’t sound bad, there’s a couple spots when they go off key, but they could do with some better layering in some spots. I would recommend if you want to be a serious band, take this song to a recording studio and record it professionally. A recording of this quality is unlikely to get you any placements in TVs or Film.

Positive Comments: Getting Jimmy Buffett vibes from this song, really like the male/female interaction in the vocal performance, the vocal performances were great in general. The mix on this song is solid, There’s not a lot of instruments but it still feels full enough to carry the song. This sounds like the kind of music people would want to hear while partying on a beach.

Constructive Comments: The instrumentation sounds like it was all done on a computer, (not recorded live.) Not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t give me that feeling of someone performing a lot of the parts. Luckily the vocals really carry this song, I wouldn’t expect a lot of mainstream success with a song like this but you can probably find an audience that’s into it if you look in the right places.

Positive Comments: Getting some Tom Petty vibes off of this song for sure. I love the arrangement and use of instruments, lyrically it’s a solid song, The synths and guitar solo’s are well performed, The drums sound good even though they do sound programmed, it’s not so obvious with the groove of this song. The intro is done very well for this genre.

Constructive Comments: The vocalist on this song has a good voice for this genre, but the recording of the vocals is not doing him (them) any favors. I would take the instrumental tracks to a professional studio and retrack the vocals. You don’t have to be some amazing singer to build a fanbase, but having a solid vocal recording will help your songs stand out a lot more. Musically the performances are very solid, but the vocal recordings and gang vocals are the weakest part of the song. Lyrically the words are great so you want that message to come across clearly and sometimes I can’t make out what you’re saying with how the vocals are layed on top of each other.

Positive Comments: Basic early rock vibe with interesting lyrics, would sound so much better if it could be filled in a bit. More instrumentation would go a long way to lift this song up to higher level unless of course it was your intention to be a minimalist with your art. In any case I liked the song and concept, thank you for sharing it. All the best to you.

Constructive Comments: As I stated above I think the song would jump by leaps and bounds if it could be fill in just a bit. Maybe a good strong bass line would be in order. I enjoyed listening. best of luck to you.

Song: Ga Ga (hard rock backing track)

Reviewer: Will Sims

Positive Comments: Sounds like it could be in a driving video game or a trailer for a video game. Track sounds good, solid recording, the guitar solo is very well written and performed. Gives me Eagles vibes or other classic rock artists. Definitely sounds like a song you could put on when driving cross country. If it had a really great vocal this could be an anthem of sorts. Could definitely see it getting placed in movies or TV.

Constructive Comments: Not a fan of the click track in the beginning at all, The guitars sounded great when they came in. Drums sound like they’re programed, not sure if they are or not, hard to tell on laptop speakers. The song feels like it was written to jam some guitar solos on so to me it’s not as memorable as a song with lyrics or a story to get attached to. (Which is totally fine) there is definitely a market out there for this kind of music. It sounds like a band jamming in a club while people party, they probably won’t remember much about this song though they will remember having a good time partying with the band.
