Song: Grey

Reviewer: John Walradt

Positive Comments: Grey melody and grey lyrics, the loping tune takes a monochromatic journey through the comforts and honesty of just being yourself…even if it’s gloomy and toned down. That’s the real appeal of this expertly written song: the melody and lyrics feel like what it’s about and there’s a comfort in that. The soft, subdued vocals compliment the appealing, catchy tune perfectly. The philosophy and advice come through to tell you, yes, you are just right as you are and your path is the right path. That’s what makes everyone unique and that is something to cherish. In the end, you’re left with the feeling that maybe that’s what is really colorful in life after all.

Constructive Comments: I cannot overstate how much I love the songs you write. This one is very appealing to me as I’m one of those who is on the gloomy side. Sparse places, quiet times, clouds and subdued tones are my favorites.

Positive Comments: I love the monotoned backgrounds of the Boards of Canada, the midi flutes and other instrumentation from Ibiza’s studios, so this very enjoyable piece caught my ears immediately. Here’s the thing: it really moves yet it’s calming and pleasant. Then it has lovely rippling notes at the end. It sounds unique even among so many techno pieces. It’s so enjoyable I listened to it a couple more times!

Constructive Comments: Great job. My kind of electronica!

Song: Spread Yourself

Reviewer: Bill Dake

Positive Comments: Like the piano sound. Live recording?

Constructive Comments: The organ needs to be brought out front. Hard to hear the melody but that’s probably because of the balance between the piano and organ. Bass could be stronger in the mix. Sounds like a live recording which might explain the balance issues. A better recording would help to make this tune shine. Remember that all reviews are subjective and others may hear things differently.
