Positive Comments: Hey I wrote a song about my cat once! I ought to post that lol. This is cute. A lot fo thought went into this to show the artists know it’s all in fun and just something to have fun with. Nothing wrong with that! Cute and fun def have their place.

Constructive Comments: It’s a novelty song, right? is that fair? And as a novelty song, there can be a market, but when the song is about oen specific cat, there better be a really fun video to go with it! because otherwise just listening gets to be a bit too much “cutsy-pootsy.”

Positive Comments: Ha that’s a funny lyric, I have to admit. Good singer, professional sounding band. I mean, it’s well put together. What is all adds up to? That’s the tricky part. But this is well put together.

Constructive Comments: It’s too close to a novelty song. Like something written for a show like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. professional, but just there to make a story point, get a laugh. After the first laugh at the first chorus, you know – got the point. Not much to stick around for after that, for me.

Positive Comments: As a big They Might Be Giants fan, that was the first impression I got. TMBG-esque. An original mind with an original approach, maybe “niche” but an interesting niche. The song’s harmonies are certainly more interesting than a lot of stuff I have heard so far from “pop” groups. Good thing the song doesn’t go on too long, something TMBG know as well!

Constructive Comments: Yeah although I am a big TMBG fan, this wouldn’t be one of my faves if it was actually their song. It’s too frantic, and I can’t really get a grasp on what the point of the lyric is (just slagging off on an ex?). I wouldn’t say the performance is to blame, I’d just say the whole conception is one not designed for wide appeal.

Positive Comments: The song starts out fun with “Attention to detail.” Where it goes form there is a matter of taste. As is the vocalist and the feel of the song. I think the artist/s knew what they wanted and they got it. WOn’t be for everyone, but I’m sure it will have its fans.

Constructive Comments: I don’t know when this was recorded, but boy it sounds dated. As someone who lived in LA in the 80s (and most of my life!) both song and performance have a musty KROQ feel. Maybe that’s coming back! If so, this song is gonna fit right in. Just not my thing, and not everything has to be, right?!

Song: Florence

Positive Comments: Strong strong stuff. This is sophisticated music, with the nice change just before the chorus. Overall control of dynamics is so good. It’s on the border of progressive rock, not so much pop, but the chorus does have that pop impact. Arrangement is tricky, if this is not a band but a solo recording project, wow. Tasty stuff.

Constructive Comments: I don’t know what the market is for stuff like this, but that’s because I think the market is just stupid right now. My opinion. I did have to listen closely at first to hear the “clear a path,” at first to my ears I felt it was oen word “Clairapath” like clairvoyant mixed with psychopath! That’s probably just my bad ears.

Positive Comments: OK band has a good singer up front, soulful, in command. really strong singing. Song has some nice harmonies/chords, keeps things from getting too familiar. From what I get from the mix, there is some good guitar playing going on. Good elements are there just…well, see below.

Constructive Comments: This lyric is gonna be “controversial.” Just because I bet soem people think it is fun, but to me it was annoying. Sorry! I think the melodic material would have come across better with a completely different lyric. I just didn’t want to hear “where is superman” again after the 3rd or 4th time. Also, the mixing could be better. Vocal is way up front, which I get, but the band sound gets a bit muddy.

Positive Comments: Wasn’t expecting an instrumental, but that’s cool. This is some very tasty guitar playing, not trying to brutalize us with technique, very melodic. Genre is a mix of country rock, but I can see calling it pop/rock. I wouldn’t say it needs a vocal line, it’s just a very nice, tuneful guitar number. Why not!

Constructive Comments: I wonder if this artist has some other tracks even better than this. The tune here is nice but not especially original. To be blunt I was kind of over it before it ended. ouch! Sorry. But the musicianship is fine, so I expect there’s more to hear from this artist.
