Song: Ouroboros

Reviewer: Bob Birthisel

Positive Comments: Extremely interesting song, with a moodiness that really sets a tone and drives it home. All the instruments and vocals are well-balanced. I see this more as Alternative or Modern Rock than Country Rock, so a quick change of category might get more of the right ears on it. Film and TV possibilities for sure, especially the instrumental version.

Constructive Comments: What I could hear of the lyrics I loved. However, the enunciation blurred some of them even after listening twice on heaadphones. Particularly on chorus sections. So I have no idea what the title of the song is. There was no defined hook that I could hear, but I didn’t want to mark the song down much because it’s REALLY well done and I enjoyed listening. In the 90s it was more about style points than understanding lyrics. In 2020 I believe lyrics are uber-important.

Song: Love Is A Natural Thing

Reviewer: Phil Bouldry

Positive Comments: This is pure country and I love it. The lyric is creative, naming forces of nature and counting Love as one of them. The instrumentation is good, typical of this genre. The mix is good, with all instruments heard from, and the vocal just a bit more out front. Nothing sounds buried or stepped on. The lead guitar solo is great! I think many country artists would be glad to have this song on an album of theirs.

Constructive Comments: I think that the words “sittin’ here” get a tad repetitive. Could another couple of words be used in a couple places? This may seem nitpicky, but the song is so good that’s all there is to suggest.

Positive Comments: I think the singer has a fine voice. He is very warm and friendly – with just a touch of sadness in his vocal performance- as is appropriate for the song. It is subtle – which is should be. Plus the arrangement is very good and again – fits the mood of a love lost.I have listened to the song twice now.

Constructive Comments: The lyrics need some work. The first section of the first verse is fine as it sets the pattern. And it starts with “Back” which foreshadows the hook BUT in the second section of the first verse you need to avoid using words that will appear in the chorus i.e. “yesterday” and “back.” Your hook is “Back in Time” so save that word for the hook line! And you end the chorus with “yesterday.” After the first chorus, that next section is fine but THEN you repeat the chorus and in the next verse you basically say the same thing again. You don’t need that third verse. My favorite line is “…etched in stone” I suggest verse 1, chorus, verse 2, chorus, a bridge and chorus.

Positive Comments: Nice fiddle. Sounds a little like a mix of Texas Swing and modern folk. Great vocal harmony as well! This would make a great music video!

Constructive Comments: When you come back from the instrumental bridge, don’t repeat the same lyrics from the first verse – add a new verse. You come back to the first verse at the end – where you change “much” to ” a lot” which is great! Maybe say “much” then “some” and then “a lot” as you go through the song. This is what I call a “bookend” song.

Positive Comments: This instrumental is ready for some lyrics. Or without maybe a soundtrack for TV or Film. In My opinion, The keys sound a little dated though is ok as maybe a retro use…Over all this instrumental has a lot going for it and is an upbeat tune – with some really nice moments.

Constructive Comments: The production and instrumentation is good and the melody arrangement – To me, It sounds a little generic lacking dynamics—-though homogenized a producer friend told me is not always a bad thing. I look forward to checking out more of your music.
