Positive Comments: Good title good vocal, good instrumentation, good, happy feel in line with a good bluegrass uptempo song. I can see a bluegrass band wanting to do this song. The recording is very clear and I believe broadcast quality. The instrumentation is very good. Unfortunately, we don’t see bluegrass much on CMT, but this remains a good song for a bluegrass artist or band.

Constructive Comments: I feel the intro is a bit too long and the song is a little too short. I think you could repeat some of the lyrics at the end and maybe delve a little deeper as to why it feels good to be in Kentucky. The hook could possibly be repeated one or more times in the song.

Positive Comments: I liked the feeling of the song and the general tune. The feeling of the melody fit the lyrics of the song for the most part. I liked the lyrics just fine.

Constructive Comments: The music was very simple and basic. The percussion was a distraction for me and sounded like a drum machine or something. I would suggest adding some instrumentation to the fiddle and drum line which would give depth. Additionally, the lyrics tell of the love that was found but that they had taken separate ways and that she was searching for the object of her love but I didn’t feel the pain or yearning that such a love from which she was separated in her voice or the melody at that point. I suggest reworking to include either a minor chord or something to provide that feeling.

Reviewer: Michael R. J. Roth

Positive Comments: It has a really nice feel to it, very inviting. I think the recording and arrangement are good. It moves along very well. I really like the voice of the singer, very good folk voice. The melody is nice and very appropriate for the style and the voice of the song.

Constructive Comments: The setup is good, but it never gets into the real story of Christopher Vey. It has good imagery, and I can really get a sense of someone seeing this man, but I never learn about the story behind the man, the stories he told, or what made him special. The story piques my interest, but I don’t get a payoff. How did he get to be the man he is? What is his past? What adventures did he have? None of that is in the song. Just a suggestion of something that might be interesting.
