Trevor’s Lullaby / Children by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Broadjam Artist: Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods
Song: Trevor’s Lullaby / Children

Reviewer: Edmond Allmond

Positive Comments: This is a very lovely melody. the construct of the song is wonderful. It develops nicely! I enjoy that. The new instruments are added perfectly, folding in naturally. Well-written piece. The main theme grabs you immediately. The development is excellent, and flows nicely from the end of the main theme. the addition of the ‘glockenspiel’ voice is a nice addition later in the song, and it’s there just long enough. Well constructed.

Constructive Comments: I wish this song was recorded using instruments with more frequency depth. This song deserves that treatment. It’s a very well written piece of music. This piece could even be played on a piano, using varied register, with the small voices added to that. It’s the toughest thing to get good voices sometimes. This is such good writing, I just really want to hear different voices perform this piece…

Positive Comments: The first thing that jumps out at me is the harmonic structure of this piece. Beautiful. I really enjoyed that cloud as the vehicle on which to take this journey. The instrumentation is quite nice. I’m pondering what else I would use if I arranged this for a different recording. I can think of no other instruments except those used here. I’m enamored of the instrumentation. The arrangement is powerful. Good structure. (build, instruments added at crucial times, etc)Thank you.

Constructive Comments: Use mastering dips to allow the instruments to live in their own space a bit better. Overall, I love the instrument choices. I just wish I could experience them more fully.Synth voices can spread in certain frequency ranges find those ranges and corral them. Use a meter over the whole performance, find the offending frequencies, and either limit just that small bit or eq that. Maybe slight compression and pull back in the mix a little bit.Mix a bit more room space around that guitar…Upper mid-range is heavy with many voices. Find the dips where each can live. It’s tough…
