Broadjam Artist: Chet Nichols
Song: King Barlow (“Live” at Cowtown Ballroom)
Reviewer: Jeff Maguire
Positive Comments: A blues in the style of traditional Sonny Boy or Little Walter , talk/sing , well performed.
Constructive Comments: Honestly I’m yin / yang about this, not that there is anything really wrong, but by comparison to the greats you are emulating it’s a little , well, milk toast and white. Or maybe just to intellectualized to be the real thing. The harmonica is ok, but neither it nor the voice have the depth or nuance that this kind of thing requires … IMO … not bad, but I’d rather listen to Sonny Boy Williamson or Little Walter, or for that matter John Mayall. It’s an extremely high bar to cross, so I would not sweat it, obviously it is very professionally performed.
