Positive Comments: Funky groove and (I really liked this) spare textures – plenty of space and air. Things implied musically rather than hammered home. Adds to the emotion. Strong lived-in voice. Impressive guitar work. Great vibe all round – suits the sombre storyline.

Constructive Comments: Just a few places where I couldn’t catch the words . . .

Song: DOOBY DOO (chill mix)

Positive Comments: I think the absence of an intro works well for the song. The song is catchy. The tone of the vocalist works really well for the song and the backing vocals work really well too. There’s some lovely musicianship in the song. Strong lyrics…I like the ‘million miles away idea’. Good sound quality. The song reminds me of The Cardigans.

Constructive Comments: For me the verses work better than the choruses. The verses are in a high register with energy but then get lower and lose energy in the choruses. Ideally for a pop song it should be the other way round. Having said the choruses do have a dreamy quality. So perhaps you have two songs here potentially, namely a high energy pop song, taking the verses as the cue and a more dreamy laid back song that could utilise the chorus. Hope this makes sense!

Positive Comments: I like the instrumentation. I think the sounds have been well chosen, particularly the percussion and bass. The tune has an industrial feel, which works well. Great sound quality.

Constructive Comments: The track builds tension but doesn’t offer release to the listener. Maybe that’s the intention. However for me I was waiting for a melodic resolution to relieve the tension, but that didn’t arrive and that lead me to mark down the track.

Song: VICTORY (instrumental)

Reviewer: David James

Positive Comments: I like the strident vibe of the tune. It has a classic march feel that is very visual, if that makes sense. The melody is very strong and memorable. I like the arrangement. Nice bridge at 1.07. It’s a bold statement..not many Broadjam members would come up with something like this.

Constructive Comments: It’s a long time since I heard a brass band, so I might be wrong on this…but is perhaps the percussion a touch loud? It would have great market potential, if a TV or film listing for a marching band tune came along, however I suspect they’re pretty rare on Bj, although other companies might seek out this kind of music, for that reason I’ve marked down the market potential.
