The House By The Rose / Country by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Broadjam Artist: Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods
Song: The House By The Rose / Country

Reviewer: Michael Clothier

Positive Comments: Good current contemporary country sound. Nice recording and nice harmonies.

Constructive Comments: I try not to make a song to complex in the melody or lyric. I think an audience is keen on how a smooth a song sounds and how complex the story may sound in the message. Its easy for us as writers to know what we are saying or trying to say in a song because we have all of those thoughts in our heads. But the audience has only one chance to catch the story when they hear it the first time. Simple works best but with clever approaches in telling a story with memorable melodies. You may want to find a more subtle way in the story to say someone has passed (rather than “Dead”). Your audience will get the idea if you have a more clever approach. “Holes in the Floor of Heaven” by Steve Wariner is a great example of this. Hard to pinpoint what the hook was in the song, super important in this tough music market. Enjoyed your passion, best.

Song: Can You Hear Me

Positive Comments: Nice easy listening sound and storyline. Has a Glen Campbell type sound, as a compliment. I like that era of music! I thought the arrangement was smooth transitionally speaking with decent sectional contrasts. Nice job.

Constructive Comments: I try to search for the most clever or unique phrases when telling the story to help differentiate a song from all the others. Striving to convert older musical influences into current or new sounds and stories is what I continually seek when writing new songs. I enjoy the process even though it can be tough. We all probably have a “hit” inside us, the hard part is finding it. Keep up the great work.

Positive Comments: Overall the tune had an Eddie Rabbit feel and sound which is not a negative. The overall content was uplifting and positive. Instrumentation was pleasant and blended well with the overall feeling of the song.

Constructive Comments: The vocals got a little bit pitchy now and then, nothing that a little tweaking wouldn’t correct. Lyrically it started out with a negative feel but eventually turned around, I really wanted to feel happier at the end of the tune. I think you are on the right track, keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more of your tunes.

Positive Comments: The vocals and instrumental lend well to the country genre. The hook was easily defined and a person could sing along with it.

Constructive Comments: I was hoping for a little bit more original lyrics and some added harmony, possibly light pedal steel or a fiddle. I didn’t dislike the tune but it did not have the ‘wow’ factor for me. Keep up the good work.
