Positive Comments: Some very good guitar tones here, with a warm, saturated sound that avoids the over-distortion trap. The intro has riffing that evokes the best of late 70’s / early 80’s. The vocal comes in differently in a more early 90’s feel like Breaking Benjamin / Tool / Jimmy Eat World. The vocals are more thoughtful and gentle than a Whitesnake or Motley Crue would have been. The performance is really tight with a solid groove and drum track. The overall balance is really good in the mix and production decisions. The bridge is a great move with a subtle touch and a refreshing change to dropout and more reflective guitar parts. Lesser songs have been all over the radio. Nice work!

Constructive Comments: Just me but I HATE pick choke harmonics, IMO they’re so old and overdone. But again my taste. “my heart is beating for you / I’ll be a shining light” nothing terribly wrong with that but it’s a bit cliche and doesn’t really compel. You might want to duck the instruments a bit more to let the vocal sit on top more. The biggest thing is this is totally good but isn’t offering anything new that grabs. But we all struggle with that, right?

Positive Comments: There are some very very cool sounds and arrangement ideas going on here. It needs vocals to be fully realized but the vibe as is would definitely work for soundtrack use. A very ominous and mysterious feel. Nice concept and production work!

Constructive Comments: It works now but adding a full rap would be great.

Positive Comments: Way tasty guitar intro and smoky vocals. Honestly I think this is what Dave Matthews wants to write and can’t without having Bruce Hornsby in the band. Great arrangement, recording, performances, and writing. What else is there?

Constructive Comments: Nothing this is real art.

Positive Comments: Creative idea. The news flash in the middle was interesting and unexpected. The lyrics could apply to so many people considering the bridge that are facing other disappointments like bullying, low self esteem or relationship issues. This allows the song to be reach more listeners with just a little lyric rewrite to make the issue a little less specific.

Constructive Comments: The difference between the verse and the chorus was nominal and could use some punch. Maybe a change to the lyric pattern and meter would showcase the chorus more. I think it could use a more defined hook. The vocals were at times difficult to understand and the new flash could have been more predominant. In my opinion I would eliminate the foul language. I find it objectionable and unnecessary. A sad story does not always require a somber tone musically.

Positive Comments: Sounds like it could be a movie theme or TV show theme song. I enjoyed the strings they set a calming mood. Periodically the flute added a lighter more jovial feel to the overall song. Overall a very relaxing feel.

Constructive Comments: Overall the song felt repetitious and lacking enthusiasm or variation. Possibly add some variation in dynamics and instrumentation. Possibly replace some of the mellow feel of the background music with horns or a more definite keyboard influence. There did not appear to be a memorable hook. Possibly changing the meter or adding more contrast to the overall body of the song. This would allow the hook to become more dominant.

Positive Comments: In the last half of the tune the use of thirds adds a new level of interest. There’s a sense of mood here that hints at another level of composition that can be reached by digging in deep.

Constructive Comments: Piano sound is very midi, so it’s hard to have much drama, which is what you’re trying. The composition doesn’t get very far from a beginner etude level of melodic interest. Sorry to be blunt, but you’re taking on a tough roll here with an instrumental so the bar is very high. Good luck and keep going always!!
