Positive Comments: Very soulful vocals and true classic R&B based Disco melody and chord progression, very much like The Blackbyrds. Really diggin on this. Mid – late 70s meets a twist of today. Great tune all around!

Positive Comments: Excellent work! Beautiful tune. Gorgeous arrangement with Vocal, Acoustic Guitar and Bass. Had to listen more than once.

Constructive Comments: Took two listens to this piece. It really grabbed me. Normally, when I dig a song this much, I usually just say “Can’t think of anything”. I first was listening through my laptop speakers and was a little frustrated that I had a hard time making out the lead vocal in the mix. I put on a pair of headphones midway and the problem was solved. For people who might be listening to this in a low fi environment, I would suggest either nudging the vox up a hair, hitting the vocal with a smidgen more compression or maybe just a very small touch more high end, so they cut through a little better.

Positive Comments: Maybe Richie Havens influence with the open tuning, sounded like a mandolin at the start, but became a guitar after a bit. Intro was catchy, got ones attention right off the bat! The feel was a real mix of folkish, bluesy, rock all rolled into one. The transition /addition of the piano 1/2 way through was very nice…a cool breath calming the fast passe of the main drive.

Constructive Comments: Really not much to complain about if at all. Maybe a change from the open tuning guitar sound to standard tuning/mandolin/classical guitar at some point to mix it up a bit. Maybe in addition to it…a ‘duet” of sorts? The “hook” to me wasn’t there, or I missed it…except the coda of “never knows”, repeated…a LOT, maybe a few times more than needed? BUT…actually these comments are all minor, you did a fine job, keep it coming!

Positive Comments: Tune has a traditional ‘older country’ feel and sound, but with a bit of a modern feel. Bounced between Shackled and Ridin’ Free for title, went with Ridin’ since it started the chorus out. Great guitar and fiddle fills on leads , very tasteful. The breaks toward the end were a nice touch! The interjection of an “odd” or unexpected chord was clever.

Constructive Comments: It seemed like the leads had as much air time as the vocals, not bad but wanted to have another verse maybe. The harmony/backup singers could have been more often than the few echo/last of line places they appeared. There was a nice sound, just wanted more of it. Last thought? Dynamics. Volume, intensity, high and low volume contrasts were not as predominant as they could have been. Build, hold, and then DROP…makes for a cool transition from one segment to the next. These “suggestions” are all minor and general…nice job overall!

Hide Your Eyes / Pop by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Broadjam Artist: Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods
Song: Hide Your Eyes / Pop

Reviewer: Randy Steward

Positive Comments: This tune has a “Bread” and or Dan Fogelberg sound and feel…no complaints from me on these performers or you! Very tasteful guitar work, nice selection of chords throughout and the overall instrumentation was appropriate, well balanced when mixed. The background vocals blended well, subtle and pure. Your rhyming was simple in many cases but not at all trite, sometimes unpredictable which was good. Memorable chorus

Constructive Comments: Hard to have negative or constructive comments on this tune. My only thought was with or IF in fact there was a real hook? The chorus was repeated but did you have a really strong hook in your opinion? That’s it…Great job overall. Not a complaint from this end. Keep on makin’ good music!!
