Positive Comments: I really like this piece. It reminds me so much of something Sting would do. Very nice tempo with a light latn feel to it. Very relaxing piece that I can listen to over and over again. Instrumentation is good and vocals are good. Good job on this piece.

Constructive Comments: In my opinion, this piece would sound extraordinary without all the reverb. Your vocals would stand out so much more and the listener would be able to hear the tone of that beautiful voice so much more. Other than that, this song is terrific. Good job.

This Time I Know I’m Gonna Get It Right / Country Rock by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Song: This Time I Know I’m Gonna Get It Right / Country Rock

Reviewer: Tom Reardon

Positive Comments: Song has a happy vibe to it. I would have liked to hear more instruments with it. Having a real drummer would really help with the sound of the track. The drum beat that you’re using is a very predictable and kind of muffled. Real drums would give you more dynamics and help with the tempo of the song.

Constructive Comments: The song has a repetitive feel to it. Maybe consider adding a few new parts to break up song and give it a different direction. Another idea would be to add a few stops or pauses to create some tension in the music. This keeps the listener engaged and wanting more. Nice work, though.

Positive Comments: Really good song. Excellent instrumentation and vocals. Harmonies are good but are buried in the mix a little bit. I think this song has great potential.

Constructive Comments: To get a better lift in the chorus, maybe try doing a stop or pause right before the chorus starts. This dynamic will tell people that something else is coming. The song moves along steadily but there isn’t much difference between the verse and chorus because it’s a seamless transition. I think this might make your chorus pop.

Positive Comments: I enjoyed your song. It has nice, simple clean instrumentation and is very easy to listen to…appealing! The story line, though “normal” was creatively presented. The Major 7th you added was a nice surprise, fit and worked well. You can be proud of this tune…great job and keep up the writing! Overall presentation was nice.

Constructive Comments: Although clean and simple, I thought some strings, way off in the distance might be nice. The harmonies were good, a bit hidden for my taste and I felt if they maybe echoed your lyrics, sort of like a ’round’, it could add another texture to the tune. These comments are, of course, MY thoughts and should in no way overshadow the song. I liked as it is, but might be even be a bit more grabbed with some additional input.

Positive Comments: The introduction had the feel and sound of possibly a James Taylor tune, which in my opinion is a plus. Lyrically you went to possibly a Neil Young sound though your vocals far surpassed those of Neil. Congratulations on a song well done. I enjoyed the visual you created of the pennies in the shoe eluding to wishes made.

Constructive Comments: I think the overall presentation of your song would have been enhanced by a little higher quality recording. I think Grandpa could have found the pennies in other locations along with the parking lot. Maybe mentioning that the pennies might have been discarded as useless for people not knowing their potential. These are merely suggestions, not criticisms of the overall work I think you should be proud of your creation. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Positive Comments: Love that intro–those are really alluring & magical sounds. The overall vibe is just as cool–I love the concept you’ve got here. This is very John/Julian Lennon meets Bowie–and then midway through you’re going for Andrew Lloyd Weber. The haunting key tracks are superb, and the drum track is so good as well–love the rolling tom groove that gives a big dramatic energy to the tune.

Constructive Comments: I think the crucifixion section isn’t working. Not sure whether that’s the design or just the execution here–your vocal performance there isn’t up to what you need (how many Ian Gillan’s are there in the world?). Generally your vocal is the weak link here–sorry to drop that on you. You could probably use your own vocal much better even without resorting to outside help. The vocal track is too dry and close, and there are pitchy parts and some of the phrasing/melody isn’t as strong as it could be.Please note: I LOVE what you’re doing here. The arrangement and sounds are so incredible. If you want to work on this or would like more input on this or subsequent versions please reach out.

Positive Comments: This is a super nice mellow tune that gives off a very content, happy vibe with some jazz textures and tension so it’s not just happy go lucky. There’s a bit of Steely Dan and even Allman Brothers in here. That bass is cooking–it sounds like you got Chuck Rainey on board. The parts are all expertly arranged and played, and as the tune goes along you realize it’s much deeper and complex than the first impression. I really like the way the guitar sits in the mix with the jangly, light sound. Excellent, tasteful organ work with a great touch on the swells. This is master craftsmanship!!

Constructive Comments: Getting a better acoustic piano sound down on the track would be a good thing but that’s $$$. Real horns or not at all is my motto, but yeah that’s $$$ and so frustrating when you want horns.
