Song: Hill Bill’s Blues

Reviewer: James Neilson Graham

Positive Comments: Loved it! We get a clear finger-picking resonant guitar sound on an unassuming folky kind of groove. The blues structure is there but the players take a relaxed approach to the harmonies and the resulting dissonances give the piece a certain innocence. Effective use of silence towards the end.

Constructive Comments: Had the impression the tempo speeded up slightly through the song – up to the silent break. Not quite sure if this was intended or not.

Song: The Graceful Maiden

Reviewer: James Neilson Graham

Positive Comments: What a delight to encounter a choral piece of such quality. Skilled use of consonance and dissonance, assured legato singing, and something special about the solo voice – all in a resonant, atmospheric acoustic. I wanted it to go on much longer!

Constructive Comments: I could imagine this as the soundtrack to a film.

Broadjam Artist: Dave Mason
Song: Highland Cathedral

Reviewer: James Neilson Graham

Positive Comments: At first you wonder if this is going to be unaccompanied throughout, the touching melody heard (without grace notes) on the pipes, but no, it starts to build. Organ and/or strings (I think) get in on the act, then a piano counter-melody and finally (seemingly) a full orchestra – to strong emotional effect. Impressive.

Constructive Comments: Unusual orchestration works well

Song: The Bottom

Reviewer: Peter Toussaint

Positive Comments: Great vocals, great hook, good instrumentation. Nice arrangement and full on harmonies. Very radio friendly

Constructive Comments: I did have some difficulty getting the words of this song, not always clear to hear what’s being sung, especially in the chorus where the acoustic guitars sit in the same frequencies as the vocals
