Here & There by Till

Positive Comments: I think I’ve reviewed this before…my impressions this time are it is well recorded and great instrumentation. I’d like to hear a more authentic jazz feel from the drums, but I don’t know if that’s what you’re going for. They do sound pretty good, though. Great guitar playing! The vocals don’t quite blend well all the time, but in general good performance from both!

Constructive Comments: As mentioned above, I think the drums need something…either a different feel or something. But that’s mostly it.

Positive Comments: Nice tune! From the bossa beginning to the R&B-tinged vocals and bass, it all works great together! Nice mixing/mastering as well.

Constructive Comments: Nothing that comes to mind – I’d be happy to make up something if you’d like. 😀 Great Job!

Positive Comments: Nice groove and sax/keyboard interplay. I don’t know if the texture is kept more minimal on purpose, but I think it works. The drums and bass are pretty tight as well.

Constructive Comments: I’d like to hear more! Maybe a B section in D minor, E minor, or G to complement the C major A section would work well.

Constructive Comments: I’m not a huge fan of the drum program. It may be planned this way, but I get distracted by the volume swell of the bass drum towards the end of two-measure phrases throughout. It souns like a mistake to me.Maybe during the second A section add something different to the mix to differentiate it from the first A section. During the Piano solo sections, it would be nice to hear the piano play a little more technically, at least to set it apart from the rest of song.

He Couldn’t Explain by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Song: He Couldn’t Explain

Positive Comments: I like the jazzy harmony and the mellow instrumentation of this track. It reminds me of Moondance by Van Morrison and s helping of Steely Dan. I would call this more jazz-influenced rock. I like the vocal melody as well, my comments below notwithstanding.

Constructive Comments: I would work on the vocal track – it doesn’t seem to blend with the rest of the instrumentation. It sounds almost like it has some chorus effect on it. Maybe mess with the eq? Also the drums really need to be real acoustic drums if possible. The song has a lot of promise though!

Livin Of time by Lazie J

Lazie J

Broadjam Artist: Lazie J
Song: Livin Of time

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: Really cool guitar vibe here, it’s a bit like Eric Johnson and the vocals remind me of Los Lobos’s David Hidalgo. You move quickly into a chorus, and this keeps the song moving quickly. Really strong, melodic vocals and passionate backups. This has a strong Texas rock feel to me, and it’s really good writing and performing.

Constructive Comments: As a song and performance I’d rate this much higher but the recorded sound is so bad to be honest. It sounds like it was transferred from cassette. IMO the move to cut time makes it sound too “Green Grass & High Tides” 70’s anthem. I’d be curious to know what you’d compare this to as a style reference/influence.
