Song: Ride 4 U

Positive Comments: This song is very interesting. I like the sound and the mood. Good lyrics and original singing. I also like the production choices for samples, loops, stereo delay and other significant elements of the arrangement.

Constructive Comments: I would be more careful on vocals editing and mixing (i’m talking about the female vocals), it seems too week in the low part of the vocal extension, but it could be a matter of personal taste.

Nothing Short Of Paradise / R&B by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Broadjam Artist: Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods
Song: Nothing Short Of Paradise / R&B

Reviewer: Vittorio Bianchi

Positive Comments: The track could be interesting as a soundtrack. The book is easy to follow and creates an interesting atmosphere. The instrument set chosen is appropriate. Recording can give an idea of then final track and the arrangement is correct. The track is not one of a kind, but it’s interesting.

Constructive Comments: The recording could be more professional, as well as the arrangement. Using full real instrumentation and/or better samples would help improve the way the track works.

Positive Comments: Another good tune from Jeffy, with Beatlesque riff and verses, sweet sound, great vocals, recording and playing and interesting ending.

Constructive Comments: I’d personally make it shorter and add something to the chorus instrumentation to make it more impactful, but these are just the observations of a cretin.

& a dash of Pollock /New Age Progressive by Uncle Spider & The Electric Dirt Clods

Song: & a dash of Pollock /New Age Progressive

Reviewer: Josh Walker

Positive Comments: I like jazz tunes that use a violin – it gives the song a different flavor. It seems the composer is going for a very loose groove, and if so, the violin goes well with that.

Constructive Comments: Well, for me, it’s hard to get my brain around what the feel is supposed to be and hard to rate. It sounds like a cross between Mahavishnu Orchestra and standard jazz. The drums don’t really give a consistent jazz feel, especially in the ride cymbal, which sometimes plays the “uh 1” and “uh 3” too fast to feel comfortable. I tended to rate it lower because I heard all electronic instruments and thought maybe this is a work in progress. To my ears it needs a more authentic jazz feel and some more structure of some kind. If it is supposed to be chaotic, live instruments would help the authenticity I think.

Song: Shoot The Breeze

Reviewer: Josh Walker

Positive Comments: This is a nice smooth jazz arrangement with a cool melody. The A and B sections provide a nice contrast to each other. The arrangement of the instruments are nice as well, and support the song in general.

Constructive Comments: The main thing that this song needs is recording with live instruments, at least live sax (definitely!) and more authentic drums. If the electric drum sound is what’s desired, I would experiment with different sounds. This particular one doesn’t seem to blend with the other instruments – I think it sounds probably too aggressive for smooth jazz.
